Serie A has several tantalizing matchups on Matchday 31 of the 2024/25 season. Here is a score prediction for every game after Friday’s 1-0 win for Genoa over Udinese.
Monza vs. Como
The battle of the two pay-to-play faux underdog stories in Serie A can have only one winner and that is no one. As much as Como are the favorites against a Monza side that is dead last, destined for Serie B, and winners of just two matches all season long, I can see Monza doing just enough to dig their heels in and get a win.
After all, Monza are at home and have added motivation against a club whose shoes they were once in. But Monza have bled talent, like Andrea Colpani and Carlos Augusto, without making adequate replacements.
Dany Mota comes up with a miracle goal in an ungodly minute of stoppage time to give Monza a 1-1 draw that they didn’t deserve.
Parma vs. Inter Milan
Inter Milan are easily Serie A’s best team when looking at their consistency, overall quality, big-game status, and coaching. But Parma are actually a team that should scare them, because they have a way of elevating their game against top teams and have two of Serie A’s most underrated players in midfielder Adrian Bernabe and young striker Ange-Yoan Bonny.
But Parma’s defense is horrible, and Inter have a great Serie A striker duo even without Lautaro Martinez. I think Marcus Thuram assists Marko Arnautovic twice in a 2-1 Nerazzurri win.
AC Milan vs. Fiorentina
On status, this looks like it should be a close game, but even after AC Milan got a draw out of Inter Milan in the Coppa semifinals, I just don’t trust the Rossoneri to get the job done – not even at the San Siro.
Fiorentina, as crazy as it sounds, have a better and more complete squad than Milan. Moise Kean is a one-man machine up top and served very well by the likes of Dodo. Give me Fiorentina 1-0 with Kean, once again, breaking the deadlock on his lonesome.
Lecce vs. Venezia
Nobody cares about this game. 0-0. Snooze this one out.
Torino vs. Verona
Verona isn’t nearly as terrible as I thought they would be this season, even though their best player is Ondrej freaking Duda in the year of our godlessness 2025, but they are going to get smoked on the road by Torino.
I mean, look at the state of their midfield. Lorenzo Montipo is going to need to grow eight arms. This could be Eljif Elmas’s day. Man, it’s good to see him back in Serie A after RB Leipzig stuffed him in a drawer. 2-0, Torino.
Empoli vs. Cagliari
Empoli made it all the way to the Coppa Italia semifinals, only to get blasted wide open 3-0 by Bologna in the first leg. They are reeling, and they will reel themselves into a trap door against a Cagliari side that can attack their weaknesses down the flanks.
Look for Nadir Zortea and Tommaso Augello to go OFF as workhorses in a minor, 1-0 upset win for the Sardinians.
Atalanta vs. Lazio
There are about a handful of Serie A matchups this weekend on Matchday 31 that I consider worth tuning into, and this one between Atalanta and Lazio is arguably the most can’t-miss one.
Atalanta are still in the title hunt despite crapping the bed in two massive games against Fiorentina and Inter Milan back-to-back, and I consider this game at the Gewiss against Lazio to be a must-win.
And I think Atalanta do win it. Lazio have been a little more lucky than good this season, and with the worst defense of any team in the top nine, their luck is running out on them.
Ademola Lookman and Mateo Retegui both grab braces in a 4-2 win. Book it. (Please don’t; I can’t have your lost money on my conscience.)
Roma vs. Juventus
Technically Roma vs. Juventus is a rivalry game, but both teams have been so utterly craptastic this season that if they were named Udinese and Torino, then I doubt anyone would be watching this one.
But any Juve vs. Roma game at the Olimpico is worth watching, and even if the quality will be terrible, that should actually make this game a lot more interesting to watch for the sheer spectacle of it.
In fairness, Roma have been a lot better since the desperation hire of Italian coaching legend Claudio Ranieri, whereas Juve’s first match under Ivan Juric’s leadership looked like a welcome departure from whatever the heck Thiago Motta was doing in Turin.
Juve won’t have to face Paulo Dybala, who is injured, and that should be enough for them to escape with a 1-1 draw against a Roma side that is suspect in big games (recalling their 3-1 loss to Athletic Club in the Europa League knockouts).
Bologna vs. Napoli
Bologna are honestly even better this season despite losing Riccardo Calafiori and Joshua Zirkzee to the Premier League, and I think that confirms that Vincenzo Italiano is one of the two best coaches in Serie A – and that he’s a lot better than Thiago Motta.
At the Renato Dall’Ara, Bologna have more than a fair shot at beating Napoli, but I think the Partenopei will do just enough defensively to keep Jens Odgaard and Riccardo Orsolini at bay while Romelu Lukaku nets the winner for a massive 2-1 Napoli win on the road.
