With Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry clearly on the decline, Bayern Munich are in the market for some more help on the left wing. They already have solutions at striker, attacking midfielder, and right winger in Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, and Michael Olise, but they need more depth out wide for the 2025/26 season.
Bryan Zaragoza, back in LaLiga on loan, is one option on the left wing next season, but Bayern should hedge their bets with another player who can offer more dynamism and be on the pitch more frequently than Coman or Gnabry at this stage of their successful careers.
So here are a trio of left wingers Bayern Munich could feasibly sign in the summer 2025 transfer window.
Nico Williams, Athletic Club
Nico Williams continues to be linked with a move to Bavaria, per BILD’s chief Bayern reporter Christian Falk, and he will be available this summer for a release clause between 60 and 80 million euros.
Last year, Barcelona were hot after the Athletic Club star, but Williams decided to stay with his brother Inaki in Bilbao after receiving a hefty pay raise from his home club.
Now, though, Williams could be tempted with a move away. He’d hurt Athletic Club less by joining Bayern Munich instead of Barcelona, while Bayern can offer similar prestige – more than, say, Arsenal or Chelsea can.
Williams was one of the best players at the European Championships last summer and, before that, was arguably the second-best left winger in LaLiga after Real Madrid superstar Vinicius Junior. He’d be a great fit for Bayern across from Olise.
Alex Baena, Villarreal
Alex Baena isn’t an out-and-out winger, but he is a playmaker who is putting together his finest season yet for Villarreal, proving to be the best playmaker in the entire Spanish top flight.
The young Spaniard has seven assists and well over three key passes per game this season for the Yellow Submarine, and his tactical versatility could appeal to Vincent Kompany, too.
Kaoru Mitoma, Brighton
Everyone knows how good Kaoru Mitoma is, and the Brighton left winger has been one of the best players at the position in the Premier League since the 2022/23 season when the Seagulls first qualified for European football under Roberto De Zerbi.
Mitoma is 27 and has injury questions. Plus, Premier League forwards don’t come cheap, especially with Brighton continuing to push for European football here in 2024/25.
But Mitoma is a legit talent who can skin defenders off the dribble and create his own shot. The Japanese international has quietly scored 7 goals this season with an average of 1.1 key passes and 1.5 dribbles completed per game.
Given Brighton rejected a 65 million euro bid from Saudi Arabia for Mitoma just this past winter transfer window, Mitoma will cost a similar amount as the LaLiga winners despite being a handful of years older than them at 27 (Baena is 23 and Williams 22).
