The 2026/27 Premier League season is just weeks away. Here are four strikers who are looking to get back on track after off 2025/26 campaigns.
Alexander Isak, Liverpool
After scoring 23 goals with 6 assists in the 2024/25 Premier League season to post the best numbers of his career and build on a first campaign at St. James’s Park that was already a massive success with 21 goals, Alexander Isak quickly realized that the grass is not always greener.
He was atrocious last season, and while injuries were the main culprit of his disappointing campaign, he still played poorly even when he was healthy with just 3 goals in 14 appearances. Isak has more to prove than anyone else, because Liverpool spent a record fee on him, only to get markedly worse.
Viktor Gyokeres, Arsenal
Arsenal won the Premier League and did benefit from having Viktor Gyokeres’s profile as an actual No. 9, but 11 goals while starting regularly for the best team in the league is hardly a great return on investment.
Gyokeres looked slow and not sharp enough mentally for the pace of decision making in the Premier League, and he got away with a lot of bad habits at Sporting CP. With Luis Suarez – no, no that one – shining in his stead, Gyokeres has to prove he was no fluke this season, or Arsenal are going to find someone else.
Thierno Barry, Everton
Everton brought in Thierno Barry to compete with Beto for the starting job after a promising season at Villarreal, but the young striker was miles off the pace in his first season with the Toffees, only scoring a couple of goals.
Barry was a total non factor for Everton and looks like a fish out of water in the Premier League. The Toffees will have a very, very short leash with Barry, who needs to improve or he will also exit English football as quickly as he arrived.
Dominic Solanke, Tottenham Hotspur
Dominic Solanke has been sticking around the Premier League for a while despite never fulfilling his prodigious potential as a top prospect for either Liverpool or Chelsea, and while he seemed to break out with a whopping 19 goals for Bournemouth in the 2023/24 season, he has been a total failure since making a record 65 million pound move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2024 as the supposed Harry Kane heir.
Roberto De Zerbi will give Solanke one last chance to prove himself at N17 this season, but if the England international fails, Spurs will have no qualms with giving him the axe for a better striker who can actually find the back of the net consistently.
