Real Madrid are in the market for a new left back in the summer 2025 transfer window, and while their dream target is Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, who remains an impending free agent, they have their eyes on young up-and-coming talents in Europe’s top five leagues.
Meanwhile, Juventus are weighing potential defensive signings after center back Gleison Bremer‘s season-ending injury, with Ardian Ismajli on the radar as a possible center back signing.
Juventus could also use a left back, though, as they signed Juan Cabal this summer from Hellas Verona as an option, but they could use a more attacking left back in a platoon setup.
According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Juventus are interested in Benfica left back Alvaro Fernandez Carreras, who previously spent time in the Real Madrid and Manchester United youth academies.
Appropriately, O Jogo in Portugal have reported that Real Madrid are also closely monitoring their former Castilla standout. Carreras is just 21 and is enjoying a great start to the season for Benfica.
Juventus reportedly scouted Carreras in his last Champions League battle against Real’s crosstown rivals Atletico Madrid, and he must have certainly made an impression on both European giants.
Carreras was part of a dominant 4-0 win for Benfica over Atleti, shining with three tackles, four interceptions, four dribbles completed, and a key pass. That highlights the all-around impact the No. 3 is capable of making.
Still developing, Carreras has been performing well for Benfica, averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.6 key passes, and 1.3 dribbles completed per game in Liga NOS. He could become one of the best left backs in Europe at this trajectory and would make great sense for both Juve and Real Madrid as a transfer target.
Real Madrid are undoubtedly familiar with Carreras, and they will be monitoring both the Benfica left back and his teammate Antonio Silva at center back, as the Merengues are finally ready to make a central defensive signing in 2025.
