Tottenham have five different players with at least five goals scored, but they don’t have a single player with 10 goals in the first half of the 2024/25 Premier League season.
Dominic Solanke has been an all-around success at striker for Spurs, but his seven goals in 17 starts are a below-average return and don’t even represent the team lead, as No. 10 James Maddison has scored 8.
So Tottenham are looking for some additional goal-scoring with Son Heung-min slow off the block with 5 goals in 17 games and Solanke offering a different skill-set to that of a normal striker.
There are options at the 9, like Randal Kolo Muani, but they, like Solanke, are expensive and therefore not without risk. So Tottenham could look to make a splash by going a less orthodox route.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in signing Manchester United miscast Marcus Rashford, whose days at Old Trafford seem to be numbered after continued poor performances and the appointment of yet another manager in Ruben Amorim.
Rashford doesn’t seem to fit Amorim’s style and has been getting worse over the last two seasons, leading many to believe he needs a move away from his boyhood club in order to resurrect his career.
A loan transfer carries less risk, but, the Daily Mail report that this valuation of risk and the chances of any Rashford transfer to Tottenham happening are contingent upon the exact wages Spurs would have to cover for the duration of the loan, as well as the potential for Man United to attach an onerous obligation to buy clause.
But Manchester United may not have the leverage they think they do with Rashford, since the opinion of the talented former England international is a lot lower outside of Old Trafford.
Tottenham took a punt on Timo Werner, and they could do the same with Rashford, who arguably carries even more upside than the German, even if he is costlier from a wage perspective and an even poorer fit a a pure striker.
