Liverpool want to sign the best available free agent (that isn’t one of their own)

Liverpool could potentially lose two of the best players in the world to free agency in 2025, as right winger Mohamed Salah and right back Trent Alexander-Arnold are both on expiring contracts without new deals in place.

While the Reds have been slow to negotiate both deals, the overall sentiment is that the Premier League and Champions League leaders will be able to retain both players.

Not only are they both world-class players, but Salah is the best right winger on the planet and Alexander-Arnold the best healthy right back. Losing Salah, the best player in the world, to Saudi Arabia would be devastating, but if Alexander-Arnold were to join Champions League rivals Real Madrid, that may be even more devastating, especially since TAA is a homegrown talent.

But even as Liverpool deal with the ongoing drama of the Salah and, especially, the Alexander-Arnold contract situations, they are optimistic that they can sign the best upcoming summer 2025 free agent that isn’t one of their own stars.

According to a report from BILD’s Christian Falk, Liverpool are indeed considering signing center midfielder Joshua Kimmich for free, as the Bayern Munich star is without a new contract of his own despite his obvious important to the Bundesliga leaders.

Kimmich has frequently been disparaged in the German media, like so many other great players, but he has proven time and time again that his footballing intelligence, intensity, and technical quality are far too important for Bayern to lose.

But if they were to lose him for free, Liverpool would gladly lap him up and appreciate him just as much as they did another free agent superstar defensive midfielder from the Bavarian ranks, Thiago Alcantara.

Better yet, Kimmich would come without the massive injury baggage that Thiago did, making him a dream free agent signing. Even though he is 29, he plays like he’s 24, and he’d be quite the complement to another former bargain signing from Bayern, Ryan Gravenberch.
