Tottenham spent 60 million pounds this past summer in order to sign Dominic Solanke as a well-rounded focal point to the Spurs attack who could help Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min more involved on the scoresheet.
So far, the investment has had mixed results. While Solanke has been very good from an all-around perspective, the goals on the wings have been slow to come by, and Solanke isn’t much of a primary scorer either with less than a goal every two games.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are still nowhere near getting a true foothold on a European place, much less a spot in the top four, which was their obvious goal coming into the 2024/25 season after finishing fifth to Aston Villa last year.
So Tottenham are in the market for some more attacking firepower this January, and one of their most frequently linked options is PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani, who will be out the door after a poor 18 months in the French capital after previously being one of the top players in the Bundesliga at Eintracht Frankfurt.
According to a report from Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, Tottenham have begun talks with PSG for the French forward, but discussions around a loan transfer with an option to buy are no longer on the table.
That’s not good news for Tottenham, because it makes a Kolo Muani transfer riskier. While PSG are backed by Qatar and probably aren’t interested in making a profit on the bloated 95 million euro transfer they initially made, it stands to reason that it will still take a fair chunk of change for PSG to sell RKM this winter.
Tottenham, therefore, would have loved a loan with an option to buy to get a trial period with the player before signing him, and, then, investing in a transfer would be less risky – or even more reasonably priced.
Now, Tottenham have to be willing to take the full risk on, or, if PSG only want a simple loan, they won’t even get to reap the long-term benefits of Kolo Muani if he does end up being a success in North London.
