Tottenham have a chance to sign another transformative Serie A transfer target

Over the years, Tottenham have earned a reputation for making brilliant signings from Serie A, especially players with ties to Juventus, owing to their connections through previous executive Fabio Paratici.

Rodrigo Bentancur, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Guglielmo Vicario, and Dejan Kulusevski are all vital players to Tottenham in 2025 and all got their starts as top players in Serie A. Even last winter, Spurs signed a talented player from the Italian top flight in center back Radu Dragusin.

While Tottenham are mostly focusing on forwards this winter and have their eyes peeled on disgruntled PSG striker Randal Kolo Muani, it appears they could make a smarter signing from Serie A.

According to a report from TV Play in Italy, Tottenham are preparing to make a transfer offer of around 32 million euros to Inter Milan for backup center midfielder Davide Frattesi, who is “open” to joining Spurs this winter.

Frattesi was one of the most talented young footballers in Italy for Sassuolo before boldly joining Inter, where he did win the Scudetto but has failed to break into the XI as a regular due to a crowded rotation of midfielders.

Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrik Mkhitaryan, and, of course, Nicolo Barella are all undroppable, and even this past summer, Inter added long-time Serie A star Piotr Zielinski for free as a backup from Napoli.

Frattesi could be looking to jump ship for a new challenge, and as much as Tottenham are being linked with forwards, their biggest need in terms of talent gap in the Premier League has always been midfield.

Spurs could use a midfielder like Frattesi who is athletic, dynamic, technical, and doesn’t give up anything in defense. They have solid role players but not someone who can make something happen in a true box-to-box role on both ends of the pitch.

Just 25 years old, Frattesi has yet to truly hit his peak and is an excellent buy-low candidate, as 32 million euros isn’t a whole lot of money at all for a Premier League to be investing in a player getting minutes for a team that won a major league title last season.
