Chelsea made a host of bold transfers in the summer transfer window last year to try and bolster their attack. They added Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho on loan while bringing Pedro Neto aboard on the right wing from Wolves.
So far, the returns have been a mixed bag, but Chelsea, as a whole, have unequivocally improved and are back in the hunt for Champions League football, currently ranking sixth in the Premier League heading into Saturday’s fixture against Everton.
Chelsea want to keep adding more talent, particularly up-and-coming footballers who can add excitement and a hefty dose of chance-creation to their front line, which will need a new striker, too.
Chelsea could sign Jamie Bynoe-Gittens for 50-60 million euros
According to a report from Sky Sports Germany’s Patrick Berger, Chelsea have now turned their attention to Borussia Dortmund left winger Jamie Bynoe-Gittens as a transfer target this summer.
Chelsea reportedly believe that Bynoe-Gittens is too good to not play in the Premier League, falling in the line of thinking that the best English players should be playing in the country – and many top Premier League sides like the Blues covet having the best national team players on their side. (Chelsea already have a couple of them in Levi Colwill and Cole Palmer.)
According to Sky Germany, Chelsea have already begun talks with Bynoe-Gittens’s representatives on a contract worth six to seven million euros in wages. Furthermore, Dortmund would be open to discussing a deal if they have a transfer offer between 50 and 60 million euros on the table.
Bynoe-Gittens is still raw
Those are reasonable prices for Bynoe-Gittens, who will cost a premium price because he is having a good season, is an England international, has interest across the continent, and is still only 20 years old.
Bynoe-Gittens remains very raw and has to work on his consistency and end product, so there is real risk with a deal here. But there is also real reward, since he’s come a long way over the years and has obvious upside.
An elite athlete and one of the most explosive dribblers on the ball in European football, Bynoe-Gittens is growing more comfortable at creating for others and more adept at creating his own shooting opportunities.
A better option than Jadon Sancho
This season for an entirely unremarkable Dortmund side, Bynoe-Gittens has found the back of the net eight times and is averaging a healthy 2.7 dribbles completed and 1.3 fouls drawn per game for the Black and Yellows.
Basically, Bynoe-Gittens is younger and putting up better dribbling statistics than current Chelsea man Jadon Sancho did for Dortmund last season. So it would make sense for Chelsea to take a gamble and replace Sancho with Bynoe-Gittens on the left wing.
