Manchester United get disappointing Andre Onana transfer news

Manchester United are going to be busy again this summer transfer window, because despite signing three of European football’s most touted young talents in 2024 – Manuel Ugarte, Leny Yoro, and Joshua Zirkzee – along with veteran defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, the Red Devils are even worse than they started.

Firing Erik ten Hag for Ruben Amorim hasn’t yielded immediate results for a Manchester United side stuck in the bottom half of the Premier League, and while striker will, once again, be a priority for the club after Zirkzee’s failure to help, it won’t be the only need at Old Trafford.

Andre Onana has been a liability this season

See, Manchester United are keen on making a switch at goalkeeper, as Andre Onana has fallen further in the eyes of fans, with former goalkeeper David de Gea’s resurgence in Florence only making those feelings stronger.

Onana has saved fewer than 70 percent of the shots he has faced in the Premier League this season, and there’s a feeling that the 29-year-old’s best days are behind him.

There was initially optimism that Manchester United could sell Onana to Saudi Arabia with Saudi Pro League side Neom SC reportedly interested in making a big splash, but that does not appear to be the case.

Neom SC reportedly not interested in Onana

According to a report from transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Neom SC are not interested at all in signing Andre Onana at this time, meaning Manchester United will have to look elsewhere to offload the underperforming goalkeeper.

It is a disappointing blow to Man United if this is the case, because the best hope for the club is to sell Onana to the Saudi Pro League since no top clubs in Europe that can take on his wages would be interested in Onana.

While Onana was once one of the top goalkeepers in Serie A and made the Champions League Final for Inter Milan as recently as 2023, his playing style has always been concerning at the top level.

Manchester United need a younger GK

Inter are actually better off with Yann Sommer in goal these days, while Onana’s positive traits like reflexes and ball skills are rapidly becoming less appealing in light of his unreliability and proneness to mistakes.

Manchester United will want to sell Onana to a club that is willing to pay a nifty transfer fee for him, but that will only be someone from Saudi Arabia. Then, Man United can use the money generated from a sale to sign a younger, better goalkeeper to build their new team around.
