FPL Start or Sit for Matchday 6: Danny Welbeck and Senne Lammens get hot

Matchday 6 of the 2026/27 Premier League season is upon us as the September/October international break comes to a close. Fantasy Premier League managers are already keeping one eye open on the week ahead. Here are players worth starting and a few that need to sit.

Goalkeeper

Start: Senne Lammens, Manchester United

Manchester United are going up against a Tottenham Hotspur team that almost never scores, shoots a lot, and takes a lot of poor-quality shots. This is a personnel problem, not a tactical one, and so it’s not going to change magically just because there was a break in club football. That makes Senne Lammens a must-start for FPL owners this week.

Start: Caoimhin Kelleher, Brentford

Caoimhin Kelleher looked like a real star for Liverpool when he was a young keeper backing up Alisson Becker, and he is more than fulfilling his potential for Brentford, who are one of the top teams in the Premier League right now. He is ranked third in the league in save percentage, and going up against an Aston Villa side that has struggled this season, he’s a strong play.

Sit: Robin Roefs, Sunderland

Robin Roefs has been a bit of a letdown between the sticks for the Black Cats this season, as his side are one of only 5 teams in the Premier League to allow 10 goals in 5 games this season, just a year removed from being one of the Premier League’s best defensive units. Going up against a Brighton side that literally leads the Premier League in goals by a fair margin – even more than the 13 Manchester City have, and they scored 5 on Sunderland a few weeks ago – Roefs is an FPL sit.

Sit: Dorde Petrovic, Bournemouth

Statistically speaking, Dorde Petrovic has been a bottom five goalkeeper in the Premier League thus far in the 2026/27 campaign, and while his Matchday 6 opponents, Chelsea, are in the bottom half of the Premier League table, they do have a great attack. And even if Joao Pedro can’t play, the Blues still have enough weapons to worry Petrovic. He’s a very, very easy sit.

Defenders

Start: Lewis Hall, Newcastle

Lewis Hall has been Newcastle’s best player, by far, to start the 2026/27 Premier League season, and there is a real case to be made that he has outplayed every other left back in the league thus far. With the Magpies facing a Coventry side that can’t score or defend, Hall’s hot streak to start the season is highly unlikely to end. He could be one of the top scorers in defense this week.

Start: Tyrick Mitchell, Crystal Palace

Boasting the added bonus of scoring two goals as a defender, Tyrick Mitchell is a real sleeper in FPL for Crystal Palace when they take on a Nottingham Forest side that remains one of the worst teams in the Premier League. Mtichell is averaging 2.2 tackles and 1.0 key passes per game in addition to his goals, and he can really fill up the full stat sheet.

Sit: Victor Lindelof, Aston Villa

I doubt many fantasy owners are thinking of starting Victor Lindelof, but I wouldn’t touch him at all when Aston Villa take on Brentford. The Bees have scored 10 goals in 5 games while Aston Villa have allowed 9, and the only more out-of-form player you could possibly pick in defense besides him is his own teammate Pau Torres, coming off an injury.

Sit: Reinildo, Sunderland

Another defensive player on Sunderland to avoid is Reinildo. He is one of the most polarizing fullbacks in the Premier League in terms of being up and down, and he’s just not going to give you any attacking points either.

Midfielders and Forwards

Start: Josh King, Fulham

Fulham have been atrocious this season and are only barely above Tottenham Hotspur at the very bottom of the Premier League table. King is part of a young, talented squad that is looking to grow with the new project under Alvaro Arbeloa, and with two goals and more than 2.5 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn, the 19-year-old is the one guy really posing a threat for the Cottagers. After a break is a great chance for Fulham to get back on track, and they have an ideal opponent to take advantage of in Ipswich.

Start: Morgan Gibbs-White, Nottingham Forest

Morgan Gibbs-White is a must-start. Not only is he one of the best attacking players in the Premier League after a 15 goal season, but he is facing a Crystal Palace side that is in the bottom six of the Premier League and clearly out of sorts. They are not the same defensively without Maxence Lacroix, who joined Chelsea this summer, and it would honestly be an upset if MGW didn’t score.

Sit: Mohamed Belloumi, Hull

Mohamed Belloumi has been sensational for Hull this season and one of the attacking breakouts of the 2026/27 Premier League season, but he is in for a tough test against an Everton side that has allowed just three goals this campaign. The Toffees are going to keep the ball and make it tough for Hull to find shooting opportunities, so Belloumi is one to pass on.

Sit: Yeremy Pino, Crystal Palace

Yeremy Pino is having a disappointing start to life for Crystal Palace, far from the player that he was for Villarreal. The Spanish international is facing a Nottingham Forest side that is better than the table suggests, and they have always been a tough nut to crack defensively. Anyone considering Yeremy should think twice this coming weekend.

Start: Danny Welbeck, Chelsea

With Joao Pedro likely out injured, Danny Welbeck becomes a compelling Fantasy Premier League option for owners as a differential streaming replacement. Welbeck was the main man for Brighton last season and one of the best all-around strikers in the Premier League, and even though he hasn’t done much for Chelsea thus far, he is averaging a couple of key passes per game and has quietly been there creatively. He and Morgan Rogers can really do damage to the Bournemouth defense.

Start: Evanilson, Bournemouth

Meanwhile, on the other side of the coin, Evanilson is going to be a nightmare for the Chelsea defense, which does not cope well with fluid, all-arounders like Evanilson. Criminally underrated, the Cherries starting striker with Eli Junior Kroupi is a great player in his own right and one of the best dribblers and creators at the position.

Sit: Kai Havertz, Arsenal

Kai Havertz is still expected to play despite a recent knock, but he won’t be at 100 percent, even though he is still the best option Arsenal have. While Havertz is the best No. 9 starter for the Gunners, he isn’t one of the best strikers in the Premier League. Leeds United play tough defensively, and they are going to swarm Arsenal in possession and make it tough for Havertz to find any real shooting opportunities. Pass on him.

Sit: Erling Haaland, Manchester City

Now, Erling Haaland IS the best striker in the Premier League, and while he has five goals in five games, that production is going to come to an end against rivals Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds have an elite center back partnership that is actually led by Jeremy Jacquet, who looks like the best young defender and maybe the best overall center back of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Jacquet and Virgil van Dijk are going to put the clamps on Erling, whose impact beyond goals has been pretty mediocre this season.
