Arsenal are still in the market for some attacking help, as they came into the summer transfer window with the striker position as their biggest area of need and an additional desire to add some attacking depth on the wings.
So far, Arsenal have signed Riccardo Calafiori to add to their defense, and they are close to signing another world-class midfielder in Mikel Merino to form a talented pairing with 2023 blockbuster signing Declan Rice.
Now, Arsenal are turning their attention back to the attack, with Napoli star Victor Osimhen still on the table. But Osimhen isn’t the only Serie A attacker generating significant interest from the Gunners.
Atalanta star Ademola Lookman is another strong possibility for Arsenal, as he is coming off two great Serie A seasons and a Europa League triumph with La Dea, where he has broken out to become one of the best forwards in Italian football over the last two seasons.
However, as quickly as he emerged on the Arsenal radar, it appears Lookman may be headed in another direction, as Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that the 26-year-old Nigerian international has reached a verbal agreement with PSG and would like to join the Parisians straight away.
Arsenal are still interested in Lookman, but it appears PSG are the overwhelming favorites to sign the player, who even held out of training with Atalanta in order to send the message of a transfer request.
Selling Lookman would generate major funds for Atalanta, who could have upwards of 100 million euros in the bank account between a Lookman sale and the likely Teun Koopmeiners transfer to Juventus.
PSG are rebuilding after losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid for free, and while Lookman is no Mbappe replacement, he is a quality footballer who has more than 20 goals and 10 assists in the last two seasons combined.
Arsenal could have used Lookman as a versatile backup at all three positions in the 4-3-3, but he was expensive for that role. Meanwhile, Lookman to PSG could clear the way for Arsenal to nab Osimhen, who is also a top target for PSG.
