Arsenal were mostly strongly linked to attacking targets when the summer 2024 transfer window began, but, to this point, the Gunners have yet to sign a forward despite the need for a starting striker and depth on the wings.
They have, of course, made two notable signings in midfielder Mikel Merino and defender Riccardo Calafiori, both of whom figure to be among the best in their positions in the Premier League this season.
Although the striker position has largely been viewed as the most pressing need for Arsenal, with the Gunners lacking an out-and-out goal-scoring No. 9, Mikel Arteta and Co. seem to be favoring additional winger options more.
There’s a trend of elite clubs in the Premier League loading up on wingers, with Manchester City adding Savio to their talented group this summer and Chelsea investing in Pedro Neto, Joao Felix, and Estevao Willian this year with additional interest in Jadon Sancho.
Athletic Club star Nico Williams has been tabbed as the next dream target for Arteta in the attack, as the Spanish national team winger was one of the best players at the Euro 2024 tournament – which Spain won.
However, according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, via afcstuff, Williams isn’t interested in leaving Bilbao, “Nico Williams, he will stay at Bilbao, he has decided to stay for another year minimum, so there’s no chance that he’ll leave in the coming days.”
That decision would not be surprising, because Williams already rejected a transfer to Barcelona despite the fact that there was heavy optimism a deal would be completed with Barca stars, specifically Spanish teammate Lamine Yamal, pushing hard to recruit the breakout LaLiga winger.
Arsenal are in a better spot financially and are more competitive than Barcelona, but it seems like even the Premier League powerhouse won’t be able to convince the dynamic left winger to move away from his beloved Athletic Club.
