Aston Villa are shorthanded in central defense right now, as one of their most important players, Pau Torres, fractured his metatarsal and will be out for the first two months to start 2025.
Torres is one of the best center backs in the Premier League, so this is obviously a tough blow for the Lions, who are now looking for reinforcements in the January 2025 transfer window so that they can compete in the last six months of the season and maintain their standing as a Champions League side.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Aston Villa have been offered the opportunity to sign PSG star Milan Skriniar, who is one of the biggest names on the transfer market at center back.
Skriniar was once one of the best center backs in the world at Inter Milan, winning the Scudetto in 2020/21. But after plodding contract negotiations with the cash-strapped Nerazzurri, Skriniar left the beloved Italian club for the big bucks in Paris, where the 29-year-old has flopped badly.
Although Skriniar isn’t getting any younger, he has a great pedigree to him, and under the watchful eye of Unai Emery, a former PSG manager, perhaps he can get his career back on track in the Premier League with a club that is as well-run as any – and certainly run better than PSG.
While Skriniar is under contract through the 2027/28 season, he’s not exactly lighting the world on fire for PSG, so he could be available at a reasonable cost to bring some veteran experience in the stead of Torres.
Valued at just 15 million euros by Transfermarkt, Skriniar is a strong buy-low transfer target for an Aston Villa side that already has at least one great center back in their starting lineup even without Torres – and that would be England international Ezri Konsa.
