Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has the makings of being the next great No. 9 in the Premier League, and his breakout has been great news for fans of quality football as a whole, simply because the level of talent at this marquee position has fallen off globally.
Duran has scored seven goals in just around 600 Premier League minutes this season, showcasing clinical finishing and an ability to score from any angle or distance when the opportunity strikes.
So far, Aston Villa have been managing Duran’s minutes as a 21-year-old, and they already have one of the best all-around strikers in the league in Ollie Watkins, who played a pivotal role in firing the Villains to the Champions League.
Even as a backup, Duran has turned heads around Europe. After Aston Villa kept him against interest from the likes of West Ham last summer, Duran is receiving interest from even bigger clubs in the winter 2025 transfer window.
PSG are hot on Duran’s heels, and although initial reporting has set Villa’s asking price at around 85 million euros, it looks like the Lions could be holding out for even more money from the Ligue 1 giants.
Per a report from Diario AS Colombia, Aston Villa aren’t interested in selling Duran at all this winter and would only consider selling him after the 2042/25 season ends.
And then, Aston Villa would not even entertain any transfer offer below 100 million euros, which sounds like a more appropriate warning shot to the likes of PSG to pay up.
Fans of the club will love the idea of Villa holding out for nine figures, because they view Duran as the future of the club at striker and someone with world-class potential whom the organization cannot easily replace.
PSG were willing to spend 95 million euros on an older Randal Kolo Muani who was not scoring with the breathtaking efficiency of Duran, so then why would a top Premier League side ask for anything less than a cool 100 million for Duran?
The Colombian international is as close to unsellable as it gets for Aston Villa, and if PSG are serious about making the 21-year-old their new No. 9, they are going to have to blow Unai Emery out of the water with a staggering offer.
