Barcelona have been getting the better of Real Madrid lately, with the most glaring example being another 4-0 El Clasico drubbing in which Los Blancos looked completely out of sorts in the second half.
With the way Barcelona are playing right now in all competitions, the Blaugrana are clear favorites in La Liga, and after Eder Militao’s season-ending injury, the Merengue back line looks like a disaster.
Real Madrid will have to regroup in the winter window and finally bring in some established center back talents in order to avoid this La Liga title race becoming a lopsided one in Barca’s favor.
New manager Hansi Flick has the Blaugrana rolling, but judging by the latest ambitious transfer rumors, Flick and Co. aren’t going to sit idly by and let Real Madrid get back on top.
According to a report from BILD’s chief reporter Christian Falk, there is truth to the rumors that Flick would like to reunite with Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies, bringing the world-class left back to Barcelona where he would join another highly-regarded former teammate, striker Robert Lewandowski.
Barcelona are being linked with a couple of other Bayern stars, including another free agent in 2025 in defensive midfielder Joshua Kimmich. The Blaugrana love their free agent signings, and Davies and Kimmich will be the two best on the market in 2025.
But Davies and Kimmich have also been linked frequently with Real Madrid, who could be more interested in midfield help due to their poor start to the 2024/25 season without Toni Kroos.
Their main focus will be Davies, though, as Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia have been as disastrous of a pairing at left back as Madridistas told their club’s leadership they would be.
Davies has rebounded strongly in 2024/25 under new coach Vincent Kompany, so Bayern’s key decision-makers are relaying optimism that they will be able to convince the young Canadian to re-sign before he hits free agency.
Now, another historic European heavyweight in Barcelona could complicate things, and they could also make life more difficult for their eternal rivals Real Madrid by stealing Davies away, leaving Los Blancos to scramble for left back options.
Of course, Real Madrid need Davies a lot more than Barcelona, which could factor into the 24-year-old’s decision. Barcelona have one of the best young left backs in the world in Alejandro Balde, a player who isn’t significantly worse than Davies.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have no starting-caliber options at left back, so imagine, then, the embarrassment if Flick were to sway their dream left back target for the last two years.
