There is little question that Barcelona are the best team in the world at producing young talent, especially high-end young talent that has the potential to define a generation.
They did that consistently over the past two decades, and, now, in 2025, the foundations of the team contending for the 2024/25 LaLiga title are mostly ascending rockstars like Pedri, Pau Cubarsi, and Lamine Yamal who are all very much among the best in the world at their respective positions.
But buried on the bench, Barcelona also have a number of young talents chomping at the bit, worried that they may never truly get their chance to stand out as top players in their league because of the sheer amount of quality in the side.
According to a report from Relevo’s Miguel Rico, Barcelona want to make investments to improve their squad further this summer, but in order to fund the upgrades they want, Barca will have to part ways with quality players to make space.
He specifically mentions attacking midfielders Pablo Torre and Fermin Lopez as two talented players whom Barcelona could be forced to sell this summer because they will have value on the open transfer market but are unable to get regular playing time commensurate with their talents.
It would not be surprising if Barcelona were to sell both players this summer, even as it would be sad from the perspective of fans to see these two quality footballers develop their capabilities elsewhere.
Torre and Fermin have been mentioned in transfer rumors before, including last summer, and Fermin was an especially hot topic in the transfer rumor mill with Premier League clubs wisely attuned to the attacking midfielder’s situation.
Hansi Flick was able to use both, and Fermin, in particular, again showed his ability to help Barcelona win games. But with just 770 minutes played in LaLiga this season, Fermin isn’t happy with his involvement and could be doing more.
Barcelona could get more than 50 million euros for both players combined, depending on the offers that are out there. Attacking midfielders with the versatility to play multiple positions and fit the modern game are only going to be more in demand.
