Bayern Munich are backing out of the race for their ideal LW transfer

With Serge Gnabry and Kingley Coman in the down phase of their solid Bundesliga and Champions League careers, Bayern Munich are in need of a new left winger in the summer 2025 transfer window.

Last summer, Bayern signed one of the best up-and-coming right wingers in the game in Michael Olise, and his addition has paid immediate dividends for Die Roten.

But Bayern need an explosive, chance-creating partner on the opposite wing – someone who can bring more dynamism and one-on-one ability than what Coman and Gnabry can currently offer, which is admittedly very little.

However, Bayern Munich are reportedly backing out of the race to sign Athletic Club star Nico Williams, who was previously said to be the dream signing of Bayern sporting director Max Eberl.

Williams is having another decent season for the Lions of LaLiga, having just played a crucial role in Spain’s Euro 2024 triumph. He has been one of the best left wingers in Europe over the past couple of seasons as a breakout star in LaLiga for Athletic Club.

On paper, Williams looked like the ideal left winger signing for Bayern. He is one of the most explosive players in the world in transition, excellent in one-on-ones, and capable of creating multiple chances per game for his teammates.

If Bayern are out of the race for Williams, that clears the runway for Barcelona and Premier League powerhouses Arsenal and Chelsea to make a play for the 22-year-old Spanish international.

As for Bayern, there are still a number of left wing options available for the Bundesliga title favorites to sign in summer 2025, including Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma. But Williams, in terms of age and ability, would have been the bet for the Bavarian giants this year.
