Bayern Munich’s next manager appointment could shock the world

Bayern Munich have already begun planning for the 2024-25 season and their upcoming managerial appointment is bound to send shockwaves throughout the footballing fraternity.

The Bavarians experienced a chaotic 2023-24 season which saw their record 11-year Bundesliga winning streak come to a brutal end at the hands of Xabi Alonso’s Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who finished the league campaign without any defeat.

As if that wasn’t enough, the club announced in late February that they would be parting ways with Thomas Tuchel, who guided them to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals.

Reports from German media outlets in the past few weeks indicated that Bayern were reconsidering their decision regarding Tuchel and were open to continue their partnership for another season.

Heck, the Bayern Munich faithful even filed an online petition to urge the club to allow the former Chelsea manager to continue at the helm. However, it wasn’t to be, bringing to an end a long and exhausting soap opera.

That, though, might have paved the way to a new soap opera at the club as recent reports have suggested that Bayern Munich are close to completing a deal to bring in former Manchester City captain and Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany at the Allianz Arena.

Kompany, a Manchester City legend and one of the greatest Belgian players of all-time, took charge of his boyhood club Anderlecht in his first assignment as a full-time manager in 2020.

Two seasons later, he moved to Championship side Burnley and led them to the title as well as an automatic promotion to the Premier League. However, the Clarets couldn’t avoid the drop and were relegated at the end of the recently-concluded season.

All signs now point towards Kompany taking over from Tuchel at Bayern. But it remains to be seen whether the higher-ups at the Allianz Arena have made the right decision.

Bayern Munich are one of the most prestigious European clubs and the decision to sign a relatively inexperienced coach with little to no coaching credentials is, dare I say, the gamble of gambles.
