The Premier League has no shortage of world-class talent, but ranking the division’s very best players is about more than simply looking at reputation, trophies or what a player accomplished several years ago.
This ranking focuses on who the best Premier League players are right now. Current form matters, but so do consistency, individual quality, importance to a team’s success and the ability to influence matches at the highest level. Players are also judged on the standard they have established over the current period, rather than being ranked solely on a brief hot streak.
From elite defenders and midfielders to some of the most devastating attackers in world football, these are the players setting the standard in England’s top flight.
Here are the 25 best Premier League players right now, ranked.
25. Bruno Guimarães – Arsenal
Bruno Guimaraes is the definition of a complete midfielder with his ability to supply end product, defend at an elite level, and progress the ball through the lines. He was the heartbeat of the Newcastle midfield prior to his transfer to Arsenal, keeping games ticking with his work rate and ability to turn defense into attack.
A quality technician who even takes penalties, Bruno G. sees the game at a high level with a beautiful first touch and an understanding of how to feel out the tempo of the game. Though he is not an elite creator, he has had at least five assists in each of the last four seasons and has the athleticism and football IQ to move the ball forward at all levels of the field.
In addition to his assist totals and his ability to find the back of the net with at least five goals in each of the past three seasons, Guimaraes is an excellent defender and dribbler. He belongs in the top 25 for his leadership and all around quality, though he isn’t great enough at any one particular thing to make it higher on this list, especially with so many tremendous midfielders in the Premier League with even more quality.
24. Rúben Dias – Manchester City
Ruben Dias is a former Premier League Player of the Season and a two time member of the Champions League Team of the Season, Ruben Dias is one of the most decorated center backs in Manchester City history, not the least because he has been a defensive pillar in multiple league titles and was a standout performer when they won the treble.
At 29, wear and tear is starting to get to Dias, who is a cut behind the rest of the field nowadays, and he is no longer seen as an elite player among all positions with his influence fading a bit as young players rise at Man City – and as Marc Guehi settles in to his new grounds.
But Dias is still an experienced, world class center back who leads by example and has been there, done that in the Premier League. He remains one of the league’s top players, even if he is not top 10.
23. Alexander Isak – Liverpool
Alexander Isak, when fully fit, is one of the world’s top strikers, and he proved that in 2024/25 in his final season with Newcastle when he actually outplayed Erling Haaland in the Premier League.
A silky smooth striker, Isak’s movement off the ball is deadly and almost impossible to stop, and he can finish from just about any angle as one of the league’s most lethal attacking weapons. And with 1.2 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in his final season at Newcastle, Isak has shown he has a good all around game.
Liverpool need Isak to be at his best in order to challenge for the Premier League title, though because his current form is way below his standard, he can’t rank anywhere near the true top players.
22. Rayan Cherki – Manchester City
Rayan Cherki is a rare talent in world football, dazzling with electrifying dribbles, world-class first touches, and assists, such as the rabona, that headline highlight reels.
The Frenchman is one of the most technical players in world football with the creativity to conjure up chances from thin air, and he is coming off a first season in the Premier League in which he averaged an insane three key passes per 90 minutes.
Manchester City have a lot of talented attacking players right now, but they don’t have a player who is as two footed, creative, and even technically prolific as him. Cherki had 4 goals and 12 assists last season despite not being a regular starter, and while his long term potential is the real selling point here, Cherki is already productive enough as a playmaker that he firmly belongs in the top 25.
21. Alisson Becker – Liverpool
A legend of Liverpool, Alisson Becker has been firmly entrenched as one of the world’s best goalkeeper for years, dating back to when he was the hero of that fairytale Roma side in the Champions League.
Alisson is an elite shot stopper who had a streak of eight straight seasons with a save percentage above 70 before being plagued by issues in the 2025/26 season, and his one on one shot stopping, in particular, is larger than life.
One of the best distributors of the ball, especially with his quick throws, Alisson is an underrated part of Liverpool’s success on offense. That being said, goalkeepers have a harder time changing games than attacking players, and after a rough 2025/26 season at Liverpool, a spot just outside the top 20 is the highest he can get.
20. Morgan Gibbs-White – Nottingham Forest
Over the last couple of years, Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has quietly become one of the best players in the league in a highly competitive position, and he is the beating heart of Forest, pulling them well safe of the relegation zone with a whopping 15 goals last season.
On top of the goals, Gibbs-White is easily one of the best creators in the Premier League with 30 assists in the last 3 seasons. He does a little bit of everything for Forest on offense, as the attack goes through him both as a passer and a dribbler with multiple seasons with more than a dribble completed and/or a foul drawn per game in the last three years.
Nottingham Forest’s attack is Morgan Gibbs-White through and through, and while it may seem a bit presumptuous to have him above more gifted players like Rayan Cherki and Alexander Isak, you can’t argue with pure production or his importance as the face of Forest’s team.
The 20 Best Premier League Players Right Now
19. Sandro Tonali – Tottenham Hotspur
There is a reason why Roberto De Zerbi demanded that Tottenham sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United for 100 million pounds this summer transfer window, and that’s because the young defensive midfielder is an absolute general in the middle of the park.
He sees the game differently from everyone else, pulling the strings and controlling the pitch as well as any regista in the game, and while Newcastle didn’t actually make the most of his qualities on the ball, De Zerbi certainly didn’t forget how he brought the Serie A title to AC Milan in the 2021/22 season.
Tonali can defend, pass, and progress the ball at close to an elite level, and his ability to work in conjunction with the strengths of other midfielders is not to be overlooked. The Italian international has no glaring weaknesses in his game, and while others like Martin Odegaard and Bruno Guimaraes have compelling cases to be rated higher, Tonali takes the cake because of his technical and athletic mix that is so hard to replicate.
18. Joško Gvardiol – Manchester City
Even though he is a defender, Josko Gvardiol has an impressive catalogue of goals, including bombs from outside the box, that even midfield maestros would be jealous of. And because of his technical and athletic qualities, Gvardiol can star as a left back or a center back, making him invaluable to Manchester City tactically in terms of the flexibility he affords the team in any defensive set up.
Gvardiol is one of the most accurate passers of the football as a center back or especially a left back, and he can thus become almost another attacking player or even a midfielder in possession.
It is no coincidence that Manchester City became a bigger powerhouse in European football and finally conquered the Champions League with Gvardiol in their side. He is such a Swiss Army Knife that ranking him outside the top 20 would have been criminal, but until he can cut down on overly aggressive mistakes and get on the pitch with stronger week to week performances as a man marker, he can’t crack the top 10 of the league’s best players with the cream of the crop.
17. Moisés Caicedo – Chelsea
Moises Caicedo is a defensive midfielder’s defensive midfielder, tackling, blocking shots, and wrecking passing lanes with the prowess of a world class center back at times, and that alone makes him an elite defensive midfielder.
He has the range of an NFL free safety, covering ground in a manner that Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante would be proud of, and he wins the ball with a ferocity that is exemplified by a notch of at least four combined tackles and interceptions in each of the last three seasons.
Since joining Chelsea, Caicedo has steadily improved into a more steady and impactful all around player, especially with the ball at his feet, but the defensive quality he provides really allows players like Cole Palmer and Joao Pedro to shine. But because he isn’t as technical or as able to produce chances for the attack, he can’t measure up to the best Premier League midfielders sitting in the top 15 of the list.
16. Pedro Porro – Tottenham
Pedro Porro is a standout fullback when joining the attack, producing a high volume of crosses that are pretty accurate when he is fresh, and he tirelessly carries the ball up and down the flank to help produce those chances. His work rate on the right side has made him an essential player to Tottenham, and he is regularly one of Tottenham’s top players in terms of key passes and assists.
Defensively, Porro seemed suspect during the 2025/26 season, but he was also run down and not helped at all by his teammates. In a much stronger side at the World Cup, Porro’s value shot up with Spain, as he proved to be a true shutdown right back, showing the defensive quality everyone knew he had in him.
World-class right backs with the robustness to literally own an entire flank are hard to come by, and that alone secures Porro a safe spot in the top 20 despite Tottenham’s difficult 2025/26 season.
15. Antoine Semenyo – Manchester City
Antoine Semenyo was already a Premier League Player of the Season candidate before joining Manchester City, as he built on what was already a breakout 2024/25 season with Bournemouth before totally blowing it up in 2025/26 monster season on either flank.
Big and fast, Semenyo explodes past fullbacks and is always intent on creating goal scoring opportunities for himself and others, seeking to get into the box and get shots off on goal in the fewest touches as possible.
In 2024/25, Semenyo had 11 goals and 5 assists for Bournemouth, already showing an ability to score the goals himself from the wings, and then he upped his game further in 2025/26 with an absurd 17 goals and 4 assists to become one of the Premier League’s most lethal weapons.
He is the right hand man for Erling Haaland and one of Manchester City’s two most important players in the attack and midfield, and while there are bigger names in the Premier League, Semenyo has now played two better seasons than many of them.
14. David Raya – Arsenal
David Raya saved 77 percent of the shots he faced in his final season at Brentford to affirm himself as a top Premier League goalkeeper, and since making the move to Arsenal, the Spanish international has never allowed 0.90 goals per game in a single season, anchoring Europe’s best defense.
Although Raya is helped by a great back four in front of him, he is the clear leader of the unit, commanding his box with an aerial presence and vocality that other Big Six fan bases envy, and he is one of the most consistent shot stoppers in world football, almost never making mistakes.
Like Alisson Becker, Raya is great for a team that loves to dominate games, constantly finding open players quickly with sharp throws and is above average with the ball at his feet. He is the most reliable goalkeeper in the Premier League, never having an off night, and after outplaying Alisson by a wide margin last season, he belongs at the top of the list of goalies in this Premier League top 25.
13. Dominik Szoboszlai – Liverpool
Dominik Szoboszlai was a top prospect in world football while at RB Leipzig with that wonderkid playmaking quality, but he has become a flat out beast and a true midfielder in the all around sense at Liverpool, showing a new level to his game last season when everything else was falling apart for the Reds.
The Hungarian international has become one of the hardest working players in the Premier League, doing the work of three men to boss the midfield, press the defense into mistakes, and make things happen as a playmaker in terms of both passing and pressing. Athletically, he has become a lot stronger with arguably the most stamina of any technical midfielder in the league.
But Szobo’s attacking output has not suffered either. He is still a threat to score from range or from any set piece, and he has 12 goals and 13 assists to his name in the last two Premier League seasons.
Tactically, Liverpool can use him anywhere. He is an elite No. 8 or No. 10, and he could always play on the wings even at Leipzig. Liverpool have even found use for him as a 6 or even as a right back.
But while Szobo is the complete midfielder, he isn’t in the top 10 in the Premier League because his raw numbers aren’t elite enough; he is a jack of all trades but not quite the master of them.
12. Gabriel Magalhães – Arsenal
Gabriel Magalhaes is far from the most likable player in the Premier League, but the Brazilian international is an absolute beast and coming off a career year in which he was probably the league’s best center back from a statistical stand point.
The Arsenal star takes no prisoners in the air or in the tackle and is a physical specimen who is so tough to beat defensively one on one. Arsenal had the best defense in Europe last season en route to winning the title, and Gabriel was at the core of it. And Arsenal’s penchant for turning home set pieces had an awful lot to do with Gabriel’s physical prowess in the box.
As great as he was defensively last season, Gabriel misses out on the top 10 because the attacking players in the top 10 often got the best of him, and his progression on the ball for a team that dominates possession is still lagging behind the others, including his own Arsenal teammates like Riccardo Calafiori, Piero Hincapie, and, of course, William Saliba.
11. Phil Foden – Manchester City
It is convenient for rival fan bases that love to slander him to forget, but Phil Foden was the Premier League Player of the Season in the 2023/24 campaign, and if the saying “class is permanent” is to apply, then it 100 percent has to be invoked for a player with Foden’s technical brilliance, dribbling ability, and creativity.
Foden has scored at least seven goals as a midfielder in each of the last six Premier League seasons, including an astounding 19 in the 2023/24 campaign. And even though he did not start every game last season, he still averaged 1.6 key passes per match for the Citizens.
Fitting in both Foden and Rayan Cherki is going to be a real challenge for new Man City manager Enzo Maresca, and while Foden’s current level is closer to “good” than world class, when he is at his best, he would safely be in the top three of a list like this.
But football is about what you are doing for a team now, and while Foden could easily get back into the top 10 if he has another season approaching what he did in 2022/23 or 2023/24, for now, he has to stay outside the top 10 after “only” registering seven goals and five assists last season.
The 10 Best Premier League Players Right Now
The margins become significantly smaller from here. Every player remaining has a genuine case to be considered among the very best footballers not just in England, but in world football.
10. Florian Wirtz – Liverpool
Florian Wirtz had a difficult first season at Liverpool, but as a multi time Bundesliga Player of the Season and the bedrock of the Bayer Leverkusen side that not only won its first major trophy in history but went undefeated, there is no questioning his technical quality and ability. He had three Bundesliga seasons with double digit assists and two with double digit goals.
The German international is one of the world’s most creative players and among the best at finding that tiniest of cracks in the defense to slip the perfect through ball or quick pass in there into the box and in on goal; he even averaged 2.9 key passes per game for Liverpool in the Champions League.
Wirtz never stops roaming and finding spaces between the lines to hurt the defense, and while he was closer to “good” than “great”, like Phil Foden, in the Premier League last season, his raw talent is unquestionable.
Liverpool will need to see more from Wirtz next season, but with better coaching and a team that suits his playing style more under Andoni Iraola in transition, Wirtz should rocket up this list in 2027.
9. Bukayo Saka – Arsenal
Bukayo Saka is one of the most consistent star players in world football, and even though he hasn’t been making as many splash plays lately, he rarely ever had a bad game.
The England international so often comes up with decisive actions in big games, which is why he is a Premier League champion now. Saka has three career Premier League seasons with double digit goals and two with double digit assists.
Over the years, he has gone from top young prospect to world class player, and even though every single team in the Premier League knows he is by far the main threat on Arsenal to stop, he still gets goals and assists, regularly topping the charts in most major attacking statistics.
8. Virgil van Dijk – Liverpool
Although Virgil van Dijk is now 35 years old, he is still one of the world’s best center backs, reading the game and playing the ball as well as anyone in world football. And perhaps the best testament to his status as a leader at Anfield is the fact that he still plays at a high level even when his team stinks.
Van Dijk has that perfect blend of towering physical strength that allows him to win any duel with the speedy mental processing and experience that enables him to actually win duels before they begin.
He has been an elite player in world football for nearly a decade now, and even though he is starting to slow down, he remains effective enough to still be considered a top 10 Premier League player.
7. Marc Guéhi – Manchester City
While Marc Guehi being ranked as high as seven may seem bold, it is really a reflection of everyone finally catching up to how brilliant the bedrock of the England national team’s defense is, because he was honestly always world class, just overlooked outside the Big Six at Crystal Palace.
Manchester City jumped on the chance to sign him after Liverpool fumbled the opportunity – and so did Tottenham a year before – because his ability to break the lines as a passer and dribbler, as well as his defensive reading of the game and physicality are impossible to top.
Guehi is so calm and collected on the ball that even midfielders are envious, and he rarely misplaces a pass while scoring six goals with five assists in the last two Premier League seasons.
The 26 year old has become even better at intercepting passes and reading midfielders to break plays up, and while Virgil van Dijk and Gabriel Magalhaes are bigger names because they have been in the Big Six for longer, nobody is playing at a higher level than Guehi right now, as he had 1.7 interceptions per game to just 0.3 dribbles completed allowed per match last season.
6. Hugo Ekitiké – Liverpool
While it may seem overly aggressive to rank Hugo Ekitike immediately in the top six of the Premier League after just one season in England, the fact that the Frenchman was so excellent in this first season at Anfield despite literally everything falling apart in the Liverpool attack with Florian Wirtz not being at his best, Arne Slot pulling a coaching disaster class for the ages, Cody Gakpo floundering, the midfield and fullbacks embarrassing themselves, and Mohamed Salah looking totally finished speaks volumes to the former Eintracht Frankfurt forward’s quality.
Football is about what you are doing right now to help your team win, and Ekitike was easily one of the best Premier League players last season, certainly in terms of his importance to his team.
Ekitike can do it all as a striker. He is an adept finisher, he can create chances for himself and others, he is a world class dribbler, and his movement off the ball is intelligent beyond his age.
Liverpool benefit so much from Ekitike because he does a lot more than just score goals, and after the season he had with 11 goals and 1.4 dribbles completed per game, he is going to explode this coming season – not everything that dictates a player’s quality is about their resumé.
The 5 Best Premier League Players Right Now
5. Cole Palmer – Chelsea
Cole Palmer is one of the most gifted players in the Premier League, and all you have to do is look at the fact that he once had 22 goals and 11 assists in a single Premier League season, which is just insane and on a historic level for a midfielder.
They call him Icy for a reason, and that’s because his composure on the ball and coolness in the muck of the final third is unparalleled. If you need a goal or an assist from a midfielder with a player on the ball, then there is nobody you’d rather have than him. Because on top of all the assists he gets as a No. 10, he can score with the ruthlessness of a top 9.
Chelsea rely so much on Palmer in the attack that divesting from him last season with Chelsea’s terrible coaching was the worst decision they could have made. Yes, he was below his standard last season, but looking at the previous two campaigns with a combined 37 goals and 19 assists, he obviously belongs in the top five.
4. Bruno Fernandes – Manchester United
Everything at Manchester United goes through Bruno Fernandes, who had an insane 21 assists last season with pretty close to four key passes per game, and that’s just about unheard of production in the Premier League. Right now, Fernandes is the best pure chance creator in world football, and even though everything rest on his shoulders, he still always delivers at Old Trafford.
In the past, his leadership was criticized, but nobody knocks him now, and he almost never misses a game. But despite his influence on Man United and quality as a creator, he still doesn’t do enough in terms of carrying the ball, defending, and the little things a midfielder needs to do in order to be in the top three as an overall player – and his team does suffer in terms of winning despite his own statistics.
3. Declan Rice – Arsenal
Declan Rice is the best all around midfielder in the Premier League today. He can win possession with ease, beat out anyone in a defensive duel and read the game expertly, and his technique on free kicks and corners and as a passer from open play is the best of any defensive midfielder in English football. He is an elite athlete and a cerebral assassin.
Arsenal simply do not win the Premier League without how well Rice played in controlling games and defending last season, and you can pinpoint the exact moment Arsenal became one of the best teams in England to when they signed Rice from West Ham United above the interest from Manchester City.
Rice can influence games by scoring and assisting himself, getting in the muck and defending hard, or gracefully controlling the play with his passing. There is not a more complete player in the Premier League today.
2. William Saliba – Arsenal
It is not easy for a center back to be known as the second best player in the Premier League, but when you have a central defender as impactful and as full of technical and athletic quality as Saliba, then you simply cannot overlook them.
Saliba has no weaknesses to his game. He is so fast that he can catch up to any attacking player on the break, often nullifying what should have been a sure fire scoring opportunity. One on one, you do not beat him, and even the best players in the world are frequently stymied by the Frenchman.
On the ball, Saliba is as composed as he is in defense, and he is vital to how Arsenal play tactically with his ability to pass, break the lines, and get by forwards when he needs to. That ability on the ball makes him more than one of the league’s best defenders.
Cole Palmer and Declan Rice contribute to more goals and make more headlines, but when you compare the influence he’s had on the title and where he stands compared to the other center backs in the world, Saliba’s quality vs. his peers is such that he belongs at No. 2.
1. Erling Haaland – Manchester City
Erling Haaland is the most talented player in the Premier League. He is the most explosive athlete, the best at getting open for scoring opportunities, the best at finishing them off, and the most decisive player in the league. Haaland has scored 36, 27, 22, and 27 goals in his four Premier League seasons, so being the greatest goal scorer in league history is more than enough to place him No. 1.
When you have a striker like this who can score goals and decide matches on this scale, everything else becomes easier. He can finish from any angle or anywhere on the pitch, including with the ball in the air, and with his strength and speed, there is no situation in which the defense has him covered.
Manchester City have a lot of great players, but he is the main man they look to and the most important player. The Premier League has a lot of big stars, but nobody who can decide games or dominate physically quite like Haaland.
