The Serie A Defender of the Year before even joining Juventus, former Torino center back Gleison Bremer has reached new heights since signing for the biggest club in Turin – and Italy as a whole.
Though Juventus have yet to return to the summit of Serie A as champions, they are back in true contention with the hiring of Thiago Motta, putting together another impressive performance in the Champions League with a 3-1 win over PSV.
Bremer was as excellent as you’d expect against the Dutch side, recording four tackles and completing over 93 percent of his roughly 60 pass attempts. The experienced Brazilian defender also made an interceptions, six clearances, and was never dribbled past by a PSV player.
His big game in Juve’s Champions League opener is a reminder of how brilliant he’s been in Serie A this season, too. Bremer is completing over 93 percent of 81 pass attempts, showing improvement on the ball and great security in possession under Motta.
He’s been as active as ever defensively, too, with 2.3 tackles per game and only 0.3 dribbles completed per match. Right now, Bremer has a great case for being the best center back in Serie A, and more people around Europe should recognize him as one of the best in the Champions League now that Juve are back, too.
You can see why clubs like Manchester United were thinking of trying to pry Bremer from Juventus, but you can also clearly see why that isn’t going to happen. Bremer is too good and too important to the Bianconeri.
