Celtic sold their most talented attacking player, playmaker Matt O’Riley, to Brighton, and they are now in the market for some more signings to fortify Brendan Rodgers’ squad for the Scottish Premiership and Champions League seasons.
One area Celtic want to improve is their attack after losing O’Riley by signing a forward who can bring the goals to the table that they will be missing after selling the 23-year-old to the English Premier League.
According to a report from Newsquest reporter Bobby Manzi, Celtic are interested in reuniting with star striker Odsonne Edouard, who currently plays for Crystal Palace.
Edouard will become available now, because Palace have acquired Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah for around 30 million pounds, which will make him the new No. 9 of choice for the Eagles.
Still in the prime of his career at 26, Edouard has fallen off the map a bit at Crystal Palace, as he hasn’t quite been able to find his rhythm in the Premier League. It’s not a quality issue; he just doesn’t fit the environment or playing style at Palace.
Edouard was a phenomenal forward for Celtic in the 2020/21 season, breaking out as one of the most promising CFs in European football with 16 goals and 4 assists for the then-Europa League fixture.
He parlayed his solid scoring numbers and strong all-around play at the 9 into a transfer to Crystal Palace, but Edouard has not scored more than 7 goals for the Eagles and was never a true starter for them.
A move back to Celtic could be best for all parties. Crystal Palace are getting a striker better-suited to their needs in Nketiah, Celtic would be getting a true superstar of the Scottish top flight in Edouard, and the Frenchman could rediscover his best form in a comfortable environment.
Edouard should be affordable with Crystal Palace keen on making a sale, so there’s a very high chance this dream return transfer gets done for Celtic.
