Chelsea need to be on the hunt for a new striker in the summer 2025 transfer window, because while Nicolas Jackson is a solid all-around option worth keeping in the squad, he has shown that he can’t be relied upon as even a 20-goal striker at the Premier League level.
The Blues need goals to make it all come together, because in the likes of Jackson, Pedro Neto, and, of course, Cole Palmer, Chelsea have some good supplementary pieces. But it won’t count if they don’t have the right man to lead the line.
Napoli star Victor Osimhen has long been viewed as a dream transfer target for the Blues, and after balking on the Partenopei’s sky-high asking price of 130 million euros, Chelsea – and other interested clubs – would only need to pay about 75 million euros to land the Nigerian superstar in summer 2025.
Chelsea have concerns about Victor Osimhen’s character
If money was the issue then, it shouldn’t be now, and it would seem like the path is set for Chelsea to land Osimhen at a cut price one year later. But The Telegraph’s Matt Law reports that a move for the 26-year-old striker is now unlikely because there are concerns from Chelsea over Osimhen’s attitude.
Now that sounds absurd. Osimhen isn’t known for being the most gregarious personality in world football, but considering some of what Napoli have put him through since their Scudetto-winning campaign in 2022/23, you can understand why that would be the case.
But Osimhen doesn’t have any real red flags or character concerns of actual substance. He’s never been in trouble for anything, he doesn’t get petulant cards, he never throws his team under the bus, and he seems to be genuinely respected and loved by his fans and teammates.
Osimhen is having a great season with Galatasaray
At Galatasaray this season, Osimhen has been nothing but professional despite being cast away to the Turkish league by Napoli for wage reasons, as he has rebounded his production with 21 goals and 4 assists in 22 starts.
So if the reason for Chelsea not signing Osimhen in summer 2025 at nearly a 50 percent discount from the asking price in 2024 is character concerns, then that is, with all due respect, the biggest crock of nonsense to come out of a club’s front office that, quite frankly, has been full of nonsense since its new ownership takeover.
Granted, there are other strikers out there worth signing like Vitkor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko, but neither has the same track record of success as a literal Scudetto and Capocannoniere winner like Osimhen.
