Chelsea just might be a superstar No. 9 away from being a Champions League level side again, and their top transfer target this summer will be Napoli star Victor Osimhen.
Although Osimhen’s 2023/24 season has been derailed by injury, the reigning Capocannoniere winner is widely seen as one of the elite strikers in European football, sitting only behind Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in that regard.
Chelsea are already working on signing Osimhen despite the ongoing Premier League season. According to a report from top transfer insider Gianluca Di Marzio, the Blues have an idea for their first proposal to Napoli.
They are reportedly prepared to offer 80-90 million euros in cash along with Romelu Lukaku and one of their young players in order to sign Victor Osimhen, who has a 130 million euro release clause going into effect this coming summer.
Lukaku might be worth 50 million euros despite his struggles this season since moving to Roma on loan, because he was fantastic for Inter Milan in the second half of the 2022/23 season and is a former Serie A MVP.
Therefore, Lukaku could have a lot of value to Napoli. Maybe more to the point, Saudi Arabian clubs would love to have a “name” striker like Lukaku, who would probably go for at least that much money to them on the transfer market.
Throw in the young player, and, depending on who that is, Chelsea’s initial offer on the table could easily clear 150 million euros if that’s indeed their plan to try to sign Osimhen.
Chelsea are said to be first to the draw to talk to Napoli about Osimhen ahead of their biggest competition for the Nigerian superstar striker, PSG.
It sounds like they are serious about signing Osimhen, and as long as they are not taking too much of a gamble financially – or with the additional player – on someone with his injury history, it may very well be worth it, especially if it gets Chelsea back to the promised land of the Champions League Final.
