Leicester City set to have Jannik Vestergaard vs. Bournemouth
Leicester City are set to face Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, and there is optimism that veteran defender Jannik Vestergaard will be available for the Foxes.
That’s because the Danish national team have called Vestergaard up for the upcoming October international fixtures in about a week, which bodes well for the veteran center back’s status in the Premier League match before the break.
Vestergaard hasn’t played for several weeks due to an ankle injury after it was initially speculated that he lost his starting job to new, young center back addition Caleb Okoli.
His Denmark will face two big opponents over the “break”, Euro 2024 champions Spain and then Switzerland.
Callum Wilson coming back for Newcastle
Newcastles backup striker Callum Wilson is a key player for the Magpies with his strength and differing playing style to star man Alexander Isak, as he provides the club with quality depth.
Before the season, Newcastle learned that Wilson would have to miss much of the opening weeks of the campaign with an injury, but the 32-year-old’s progress from the back injury has been even slower than expected.
The game counter is now up to eight missed for Wilson, who will almost certainly miss this weekend’s Premier League battle against Everton. However, he should be able to return soon after that.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe updated reporters that Wilson is now expected back in the squad after the October international fixtures take place, which means the striker could be ready to play on Oct. 19 in a big Premier League match against Brighton, another side hoping to qualify for Europe next season.
Armanda Broja injury return date
Everton signed Albanian striker Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea, making them the latest mid-level Premier League side to take a gamble on the mercurial marksman.
Broja played for Southampton before Chelsea took a flier on his talent, and he had an ill-fated loan spell at Fulham that led to his career with the Blues reaching a crossroads.
Unfortunately for Broja, he’s been unable to put together any positive film to this early point in the 2024/25 season with Everton, as he’s been injured since the preseason, leaving him without any Premier League appearances.
According to Albanian journalist Klaudio Ndreca of Sport Ekspres, Broja will be able to return from his month-long Achilles tendon issues in November. Everton want to be cautious with the 23-year-old due to a risk of re-injury and therefore do not want him involved at all in October for international fixtures.
Therefore, it could be until the matches against Southampton or West Ham on Nov. 2 or 9 when we see Broja get his shot. Everton have Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto at striker, so Broja will have to bring his “A” game to get minutes, even with the lowly Toffees.
