Liverpool star right back Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to be on the verge of a big move to Real Madrid in the summer 2025 transfer window, as he continues to rebuff efforts to re-sign him from Anfield,
Now, Alexander-Arnold is close to putting pen to paper on a deal that would make him this summer’s dream signing for Real Madrid, who have made a marquee move in each of the past two summer windows.
First, it was Jude Bellingham for 100 million euros in summer 2023, and then last summer, Florentino Perez finally landed his white whale, signing Kylian Mbappe for free from PSG.
Trent Alexander-Arnold won’t get absurd money
Alexander-Arnold would be nearly as big of a get for Real Madrid, as Fabrizio Romano previously reported that the 26-year-old England international was options one through five at right back for Madrid.
Now, Fab is reporting that Real Madrid’s latest salary proposal to Alexander-Arnold this summer isn’t a record-breaker and is actually within the club’s usually policy of spending a reasonable amount of wages on players. It is not, in his words, a “superstar salary”.
That will be welcome news to Real Madrid fans, who love Perez’s strategy of going after top players for free but have concerns about the wages these players ultimately receive, specifically aging center backs David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.
Alexander-Arnold is a generational talent in his prime, but we all said the same about Real’s last marquee Premier League transfer, Eden Hazard in 2019, and look at how his hefty wages came back to bite the club.
You can never be too cautious, so if Real Madrid are able to ward off Liverpool while still getting Alexander-Arnold on a reasonable salary as a free transfer, then that’s plenty of cause for celebration at the Valdebebas this summer.
