Liverpool returned to Premier League title contention last season under Jurgen Klopp, but now with Arne Slot in charge, the Reds look like even stronger contenders, thanks to Ryan Gravenberch’s breakout as a potential world-class midfielder and Luis Diaz’s turnaround to his true top form.
Although Liverpool look like a stronger side in the future after the additions of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and left winger Federico Chiesa this past summer, if they really want to push Manchester City at the top again, they are going to need to add more superstar talent to their attack and midfield.
According to a report from Caught Offside, via LFC Transfer Room, Liverpool are tracking three Bayer Leverkusen superstars for a possible summer 2025 transfer.
Obviously, attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz is on the top of the wishlist, as the 21-year-old is already one of the best players on the planet, and he’s started off the 2024/25 Bundesliga season well with four goals and an assist in four starts.
Signing Wirtz will be exceedingly difficult, though, because the sense is that he and head coach Xabi Alonso both want to head to Real Madrid, making the biggest club in the world the frontrunners; it could be the Kylian Mbappe transfer saga all over again for Liverpool.
However, the reigning, undefeated champions of Germany have many more great players besides just Wirtz, and Liverpool are also interested in defensive midfielder Exequiel Palacios and right wing back Jeremie Frimpong.
Palacios was the unsung hero for Leverkusen last season and could be a bargain signing for Liverpool, joining the rotation as a key midfielder and more of a screening, playmaking No. 6.
Frimpong is an exciting wide man who has a questionable fit as a true right back but could enter the equation if Trent Alexander-Arnold were to somehow abandon Liverpool for – here they are again – Real Madrid and join forces with Jude Bellingham in Spain.
In the past two seasons, Frimpong has combined for 17 goals and 14 assists, making him one of the most productive and versatile weapons in world football. And he’s just 23 years old.
