New Liverpool center back Jeremy Jacquet has been taking the league by storm, and after last season’s disappointing performance by the Reds defense, the Frenchman is giving the club real hope that this season they can be back in the mix again.
Right now, it’s hard to argue against the point that Jacquet has been the most impressive center back in the Premier League, and Gradient Sports actually have him graded as fifth best overall, which is a huge accomplishment for a 21 year old.
Furthermore, Jacquet’s one on one defending grade is apparently first in the Premier League and a full 12 points higher than the Liverpool star next to him, Virgil van Dijk.
Now, that speaks to VVD no longer being in his absolute prime, but the Dutchman is still going strong as one of the best center backs in the Premier League and has his younger counterpart beat in a couple of other aspects.
But Jacquet is ready to be the heir to Van Dijk. At his absolute best, there was no smarter or better overall one on one defender than Van Dijk. With some more seasoning, Jacquet, who is already the best at this in the league, can honestly get to that level of one on one defense.
