Real Madrid have been eyeing a Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer from Liverpool for years, and now that he’s set to be a free agent this summer, the most powerful club in world football is ready to flex its marketing might and pull by signing a world-class player for the third year running.
Two years ago, they brought in midfield phenom Jude Bellingham, and then, last year, they finally signed Kylian Mbappe for free. Neither player had a prayer of joining another club, such as Liverpool, and both are flourishing in the 2024/25 season for the Champions League contenders.
And Real Madrid are Champions League contenders again this season as the reigning champions despite losing a bevy of crucial players to season-ending injuries, including their star right back Dani Carvajal, whose ACL tear only added fuel to the fire in the Alexander-Arnold chase.
Real Madrid are now very close to signing TAA for free, and per a report from Sky Sports Germany, via Madrid Xtra, Liverpool are now losing hope that there’s anyway they can keep Alexander-Arnold at Anfield.
The good news for Liverpool is that young Conor Bradley shined brightly at right back in the Champions League against Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe, but the bad news is that they are losing arguably their most valuable player in terms of transfer worth to their biggest Champions League rival.
Alexander-Arnold can play at right back or in midfield for Real Madrid, and he’ll likely get some minutes in both positions until Real transition away from the aging – or ageless, depending on your optimism – Carvajal as the fixture at right back.
