Liverpool are watching 3 top-class strikers on the transfer market

Liverpool are growing tired of Darwin Nunez’s uneven performances and missed chances, so striker could be a priority for them in the summer transfer market. According to a report from talkSPORT’s Alex Crook and Robert Calcutt, Liverpool are already looking at Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, and Benjamin Sesko as three top candidates to start at striker next season.

All of the best Premier League clubs besides Manchester City need a new striker next season and have been linked to these candidates. Gyokeres appears to be highest on the Arsenal and Manchester United shortlists, especially with the link between Ruben Amorim and the Swede at Sporting CP.

Meanwhile, Sesko has been loved by Chelsea and Arsenal for more than a year, while Victor Osimhen seems to be favoring Chelsea heavily with Manchester United and even Arsenal mentioned as backup options for the Nigerian superstar.

Darwin Nunez wasn’t worth the money

We haven’t heard as much about who Liverpool are interested in signing in the summer 2025 transfer window at striker, but it stands to reason that striker will be their biggest need because it was the one thing that really held them back from putting away PSG in the Champions League.

Liverpool have other needs, but it’s clear that Nunez isn’t making good on the record 85 million pounds that the Reds spent to sign the Uruguayan international from Portuguese powerhouse Benfica a couple of years ago.

Nunez is a great athlete who can create chances for himself and others, but his end product is atrocious. The Reds are finding it untenable and want a real, world-class goal-getter.

For pure finishing, it’s hard to find better options than these three. Sesko’s height and thunderous shot power are capable of providing 30 goals in a season with regular playing time on a better team than RB Leipzig.

Liverpool need to invest in goals

Gyokeres is already scoring more than 30 in a season for Sporting, and Osimhen hit that number when healthy in 2022/23 when Napoli won the Scudetto with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Piotr Zielinski supplying him.

Liverpool will have to make a major investment of at least 60 million euros to sign any one of these players, and Osimhen himself comes with a 75 million euro release clause price tag.

But even Osimhen’s asking price from Napoli in 2025 is a discount from where it was before. If Liverpool want to build a dynasty under Arne Slot and get more than the one Champions League title that Jurgen Klopp brought home for Liverpool, they are going to need more goals, especially when thinking of a future after superstar Mohamed Salah.
