Liverpool have the best player in the Premier League and one of the best forwards in world football in Mohamed Salah, and left winger Luis Diaz has quickly rejoined him as a world-class attacker after the appointment of Arne Slot.
With Cody Gakpo adding legitimately world-class play up front, too, Liverpool have three wide forwards who can score goals, create chances, and win entire games on their own when they are at their best.
But Liverpool are still uncertain about the man in the middle. They have two quality options in Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez, and if you combined their strengths, you’d end up with the best striker on the planet.
Alone, Nunez and Jota have flaws. Jota is a great finisher who lacks in one-on-ones, while Nunez is a maven at creating chances for himself but can never seem to finish them,
Therefore, Liverpool are after a new center forward, and they have been heavily linked with another Bundesliga standout in Omar Marmoush, who has legitimately been the best player in the world this season when combining statistical brilliance with importance to his team.
Both Liverpool and Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich are after the Eintracht Frankfurt breakout star, and Christopher Michel of Fussball News reports that the Eagles have set an asking price of at least 60 million euros.
The thing is, this is actually good news for Liverpool. It may seem like Eintracht are asking for a bloated price for Marmoush, but they are actually not since this is their initial valuation.
Note that with transfer reports, the language “at least” is meaningless, because the lowest named price is the lowest price a team is willing to accept, which is, by definition, their transfer value.
So if we posit that Eintracht Frankfurt are willing to accept 60 million euros for Marmoush right now in November 2024, then you figure his price will actually modestly decrease from that point in summer 2025, especially if PSG or a Saudi Pro League club don’t jack up the bidding war.
Liverpool could reasonably get Marmoush for 40-50 million euros, because Eintracht aren’t pulling a Napoli and asking for 100 million euros in November for their best player who is literally tearing the league apart.
Frankfurt have sold worse forwards for more, such as Luka Jovic. And Marmoush has the benefit of telling top clubs that he’s been a success in the Bundesliga in different systems, because he was excellent for Stuttgart and Wolfsburg as well.
Now at the age of 25, Marmoush is putting it all together and single handedly taking it to the big boys, such as Bayern. He has 10 goals and 6 assists in 9 Bundesliga appearances thus far, averaging 5.7 combined dribbles completed and fouls drawn per game, which is absurd output in the Bundesliga (where one-on-ones are less frequent for transition teams).
Marmoush has the finishing prowess, chance creation, technical quality, dribbling skills, and athleticism befitting an all-around point man in the counterattacking-heavy Liverpool team.
He is an ideal fit at an affordable price, and this latest report out of Germany is further indication that Marmoush looks like the frontrunner to replace Nunez in 2025.
