Liverpool want to sign young €55M rated Chelsea defender

Liverpool have been the most dominant team in English football this season and are well on their way to securing the Premier League title again, and there’s also a strong case to be made that they are just as favored in the Champions League this season, having demolished defending champs Real Madrid in the league phase.

But even as Liverpool are running the table and have both the best overall player in the world this season, Mohamed Salah, and the best defender, Virgil van Dijk, the Reds are always looking to refine their squad in order to stay on top.

According to a report from Rousing the Kop, Liverpool are interested in signing Chelsea center back Levi Colwill, who is rated as a 55 million euro player by outlet Transfermarkt.

Levi Colwill is one of the Premier League’s best young defenders

Liverpool already have a collection of talented center backs, namely the elite starting duo of Van Dijk and Frenchman Ibrahima Konate. But they could use a third star who can be the heir apparent to VvD when the time comes, and they have been interested in Colwill before.

Just 22 years of age, Colwill is one of the finest young defenders in English football and was a big reason why Chelsea splurged to sign Marc Cucurella. They wanted to secure his rights, and he has been their best center back since then.

So it’s hard to see Chelsea selling such an important and promising young defender to a Premier League title rival when he is under contract through the 2028/29 season with a club option for a further year at Stamford Bridge.

But stranger deals have happened in the Premier League, and Colwill is absolutely the kind of young, proven, and highly athletic center back that Liverpool should have on their dream center back transfer target list.

Colwill is completing just over 90 percent of his passes this season with 1.3 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, and 3.1 clearances per game. He’s been dribbled past just 0.3 times per match in the Premier League this season and is central to the Blues’ revival as an expected top four side.

Even though Colwill wouldn’t start over Konate and Van Dijk immediately, he’d play significant minutes at Liverpool and could technically fill in at fullback, too. Given Konate’s injury history, Colwill could actually end up with more minutes than the former RB Leipzig star if he were to move to Anfield.

The likelihood of this transfer happening this year is low, but it is not entirely implausible.
