Transfer Rumors: Manchester United could get starting attacker from Dortmund instead of Jadon Sancho

Right winger Jadon Sancho’s future is clearly in limbo, because Manchester United were forced to loan him back to Borussia Dortmund in the January 2024 transfer window after Erik ten Hag alienated the star man to a point of no return.

There are rumblings Man United could stick with ten Hag as manager despite likely missing out on Champions League football and a barrage of criticism towards the Dutch manager from within the fanbase.

Sancho could very well push Man United to sell him to Dortmund permanently, though BVB would have to pony up 40 million pounds in order to convince the fallen Premier League powers to sell him permanently.

If Dortmund want to reduce the fee, they could send a star forward the other way. The Mirror’s David McDonnell reports Manchester United remain interested in right winger Donyell Malen, who has scored 11 goals in the current Bundesliga season.

Malen is not on the level of Sancho, but he is an explosive athlete who has an ability to create chaos. He can produce a chance for himself from out of nowhere and is a volume shooter capable of scoring double-digit goals.

Manchester United need more end product on the right wing. If Dortmund keep the price for Malen reasonable, they could make some money off Sancho and bring in a different profile on the right wing. Malen certainly can’t be worse than Antony.

But Malen is underwhelming compared to other potential options like Pedro Neto or Michael Olise, who are both established Premier League stars.

Malen is the kind of signing Manchester United will likely make at the request of Erik ten Hag to replace Jadon Sancho, if ten Hag ends up keeping his job. He’s not a bad option, but he won’t be the favored option for fans at Old Trafford.
