AC Milan are 10th in Serie A after four fixtures, with Venezia being the only victory in what has been an embarrassing start to the 2024/25 league season.
As if Milan’s performances in the Italian top flight weren’t bad enough, the Rossoneri laid another egg in their Champions League opener, and the 3-1 scoreline against Liverpool honestly flatters them; they could have easily lost by five.
Milan manager Paulo Fonseca was hired under controversy, as many Milan supporters and even club legends didn’t think the former Roma and Lille manager was nearly good enough to take the club to the next level.
Those concerns are coming to the fore, and Fonseca is already playing for his job, with Milan linked to big names to replace him like former Lazio and Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri and former PSG and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel. (Both coaches, of course, won titles at Cheslea.)
According to a report from Calciomerato, Fonseca’s future will be decided by the result on Sunday at the Giuseppe Meazza when AC Milan face Inter Milan in a match that means everything, including in terms of Milan’s already-dwindling Scudetto hopes.
Inter are the best team in Italy, winning Serie A by nearly 20 points in the 2023/24 season and then reaching the Champions League Final while winning Coppa Italia in the previous season.
If Milan get embarrassed by their bitter rivals, it’s bye, bye Fonseca – and maybe even Zlatan Ibrahimovic, too.
