There is no question that Chelsea have improved considerably in the 2024/25 season under Enzo Maresca, and they are right at the cusp of returning to the Champions League if they can finish the campaign strong, currently sitting fifth neck-and-neck with Manchester City and Nottingham Forest in front and behind them.
Chelsea actually have one of the better strikers in the Premier League, as Nicolas Jackson has become more consistent this season all-around. But he’s still only scored 10 goals, showing that he can’t quite carry the scoring load for a title hopeful on his own as a single striker.
The Victor Osimhen transfer rumors have certainly not gone away, and after balking at last season’s 130 million euro asking price, it would be alarming if Chelsea don’t show significant interest in the Nigerian nightmare (for defenders) at a price of 75 million euros after Napoli inserted a release clause to facilitate a deal.
Chelsea need goals
Osimhen has been healthy this season on loan at Galatasaray, so the 26-year-old’s transfer value has not waned as he enters his prime. Chelsea need goals, and Osimhen, a former Capocannoniere and Serie A title winner in Naples, can provide them.
Nigerian international and former Chelsea star defensive midfielder John Obi Mikel is in the know when it comes to Osimhen’s situation and is close to the Galatasaray striker.
Appearing on beIN Sports, the top-notch pundit and podcaster spoke a little more about the chances of Victor Osimhen joining Chelsea in the summer 2025 transfer window, but, when pressed to give a prediction on where the striker will play next season, Mikel was non-committal.
All Chelsea need to do is call Victor Osimhen
And that’s because, as he implied, the ball is in Chelsea’s court to sign Osimhen. At the end of the segment, he hinted that because Manchester United don’t have European football on tap whereas Chelsea do, the Blues will have the right of first refusal.
That’s not 100 percent for sure, but it makes sense based on everything we have heard from this transfer saga. Per Mikel, Osimhen wants Chelsea, and, for Chelsea, signing the most talented striker available on the summer 2025 market would be as simple as picking up the phone and calling.
It’s almost a no-brainer for Chelsea. They need goals, and they can sign a world-class striker in his prime for just 75 million euros. In Osimhen, Chelsea can fill their biggest weakness with a title-winning No. 9 who has a skill-set that can also fit very well together with Jackson if Maresca wants to try a two-striker system in some matches.
