The 2026/27 Premier League season is less than two weeks away from starting, and it’s time for FPL owners to get their lineups settled and to start thinking about who they want to build their teams around. Here are the best and worst signings for the value at each position.
Goalkeeper
Best: Antonin Kinsky was one of the best goalkeepers in the entire Premier League once he took over as the starter for Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the 2025/26 season, and he is no fluke. He just cost his chance to start, and at 4.5 pounds, he is a relative bargain.
Worst: As sad as it is to say about a great goalkeeper like Alisson Becker, his age and recent injuries could make him a player with real bust potential. He costs 5.5 pounds, and there are better keepers to sign at that price.
Defender
Best: Destiny Udogie is a big, big if, but when he is healthy, the Tottenham left back is one of the best in his position in Europe. And honestly, before last season, he wasn’t that big of an injury risk either. He is a huge bounce back candidate under Roberto De Zerbi at 4.5 pounds.
Worst: The most expensive defender in FPL at eight pounds, Gabriel Magalhaes is a classically overvalued player. The new fantasy and Premier League rule changes do not favor a player who was ruthlessly exposed by Erling Haaland. He could be in for a real let down year in Arsenal’s defense.
Midfield
Best: Carlos Baleba was one of the biggest disappointments of the 2025/26 season and is probably off a lot of people’s radars now, including Manchester United’s, but that’s precisely what could make him a steal at five pounds. They say class is permanent, and while Baleba is not quite established enough to be truly class, it’s hard to believe he suddenly became incompetent in just one season.
Worst: 12 pounds for Bruno Fernandes is pricey, but at least he is always going to get assists and stat pads like crazy. Arsenal feels like a team with nowhere to go but down, and Bukayo Saka is the poster child of that. He has been fairly mediocre over the past year or two despite his team’s success, and he simply does not do enough to make things happen like a superstar should, which was continued at the World Cup. 9.5 pounds is just highway robbery.
Forwards
Best: It’s hard to find bargains at the forward position in FPL, but six pounds for Chris Wood is as good as it gets. He was a top scorer for Nottingham Forest in the 2024/25 season and on absolute fire in front of goal, and like with Baleba, it’s hard to believe he suddenly became terrible. He’s worth taking a flier on as a bounce back candidate.
Worst: Spending nine pounds on Alexander Isak is as good as throwing your money away. The Liverpool star struggles to stay consistent, and he was always like that, big 2024/25 season with Newcastle aside. He has serious injury questions and doesn’t do much as an all around threat at the striker position. Avoid at all costs.
