Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran has been one of the biggest breakout stars of the 2024/25 Premier League season despite the fact that he has only started a grand total of four games for the Lions.
Duran has scored 7 goals in just about 600 Premier League minutes this season, showcasing a level of finishing prowess that may only be matched by Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in all of world football today.
Though he is the backup to Ollie Watkins, Duran is held in such high esteem by those around the club that there are even some fans who are pushing Unai Emery to give Duran more starts over the England international.
Emery certainly values Duran highly, seeing as how he wouldn’t budget on his valuation of the player this past summer transfer window, and, based on recent reporting, he seems to have Duran rated somewhere above the 80 million euro mark.
While that should assure Aston Villa fans that Duran isn’t going to leave the club – not at least for an eye-watering fee – there is one team that could throw the kind of cash that would make the Lions rethink things.
Amidst a poor Champions League campaign in their first season without a superstar following Kylian Mbappe’s free departure to Real Madrid, PSG have their eyes set on splashy winter acquisitions, with disgruntled Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia at the top of their wishlist.
Now, according to a report from Colombian insider Pipe Sierra, PSG have begun negotiations with Aston Villa for Duran.
That could be a far more worrisome landing spot for Aston Villa than Dortmund, as BVB simply don’t have the money to make an 85 million euro purchase. PSG, however, have all the money in the world, and they recently spent even more than that on an inferior striker, Randal Kolo Muani, whom they are now trying to sell this winter.
With a number of Premier League teams interested in Kolo Muani, PSG are very likely to make a sale, which only means they will be even more interested in acquiring a brilliant young striker like Duran.
Combined with PSG’s money, the allure of starting for the biggest club in France may be too great, and that could lead Aston Villa to be forced into a Duran sale this winter.
To this point, Aston Villa have played their cards so well with Duran that he’s been pretty close to nontransferable, but if there’s any situation that could swing the Lions, then it is a gargantuan offer from a desperate PSG.
