Chelsea star forward Christopher Nkunku hasn’t enjoyed nearly the same importance or success since leaving RB Leipzig in 2023 as one of the most acclaimed attacking players in European football.
Injuries have certainly played their role in Nkunku’s diminished output, but he’s also been overshadowed by a bigger breakout star in Cole Palmer, who was a legitimate Premier League Player of the Season candidate in 2023/24.
With Chelsea needing and out-and-out striker to lead the line and with no room for another playmaker after Palmer’s breakout. Nkunku has diminished in importance and the frustration is beginning to bubble.
A recent report highlighted the possibility of Nkunku seeking a new club, with Manchester United reportedly ready to throw their hats in the mix for the 26-year-old forward
Now, the Telegraph’s Jason Burt reports that with Christopher Nkunku now considering his future at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea are open to selling the Frenchman if they are able to get a bid of 52 million pounds in return,
That precise number is because Chelsea are only interested in selling Nkunku if they can get at least what they paid to Leipzig for him, which makes sense not only economically, but also because the Blues don’t really have any reason to sell him.
Nkunku is under contract and evidently still one of the best forwards in the Premier League. His class is obvious when he does play, and Chelsea don’t really have superior alternatives to him right now.
But if Chelsea do get that kind of offer, which could be possible from a club outside the Premier League like PSG, don’t be surprised if the Blues pull the trigger on a sale.
Nkunku has started just one Premier League match this season, and with Estevao Willian set to come next summer, the club could see him as an expendable player who isn’t truly a part of their youth movement.
