Here are three players Liverpool need to sign in the summer 2025 transfer window in order to take their squad to the next level.
Eintracht Frankfurt ST Hugo Ekitike
I’ve been a big fan of Hugo Ekitike’s since he was a little-known prospect shining at Reims, and as he himself admits, he never should have made the jump to Ligue 1 giants PSG.
Since “falling back down” to Eintracht Frankfurt, Ekitike has reestablished himself as one of the best young players in European football and reached new heights in the Bundesliga, and now that Omar Marmoush is balling out for Manchester City, the show is fully Ekitike’s to run in Frankfurt.
Liverpool are in need of a striker to replace Darwin Nunez – someone who has the all-around ability to create opportunities for others, namely Mohamed Salah, but can also add more goals with better finishing than the Uruguayan.
Ekitike ticks those boxes better than any other realistic striker candidate on the summer 2025 transfer market. The Frenchman has already scored 13 goals this season with an average of 1.3 key passes and 1.6 dribbles completed per game for the Eagles in the Bundesliga.
Newcastle LB Lewis Hall
At just 20 years old, Lewis Hall has already established himself as one of the best left backs in the Premier League. While the search for Andrew Robertson’s long-term replacement has mostly focused on a different young Premier League left back in Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez, Hall would honestly be the biggest possible addition for Liverpool.
Of course, it’s very unlikely Liverpool are able to sign Hall, because he’s very valuable to Newcastle, who are a top side with Champions League aspirations of their own since achieving qualification to the competition in Saudi Arabia’s first season owning them.
With 4 assists and nearly 3 combined tackles and interceptions per game this season, Hall has the tools to become just as well-rounded of a left back as Robertson was at Anfield.
Bayern Munich DM Joshua Kimmich
Liverpool have mostly been keeping an eye on their own superstars who are impending free agents, right winger Mohamed Salah and right back Trent Alexander-Arnold, but they would also be wise to watch out for other upcoming free transfers.
If Bayern Munich somehow don’t keep Joshua Kimmich on board despite an amazing prove-them-all-wrong season under Vincent Kompany one year after Thomas Tuchel tried to discard him, then they will be extremely foolish and will likely lose the German international to a Champions League title rival.
Liverpool have rebuilt their midfield with several smart signings, and 2024/25 breakout star Ryan Gravenberch now looks like the crown jewel of the lot under new coach Arne Slot.
But imagine how good he would be with a controller next to him, and former teammate Kimmich would be the best on the market in terms of established value and cost, if, again, he makes it to free agency.
