Tottenham just missed out on returning to the Champions League under Ange Postecoglou last season in his first campaign at the helm, as even without Harry Kane, the former Celtic manager got Spurs back on track and injected some much-needed optimism into the club.
This past summer, Tottenham signed a new striker in Dominic Solanke to work with the likes of Son Heung-min and James Maddison in the attack, as Spurs aim to boost their goal-scoring juice.
They’ve already figured out their defense, as they have one of the strongest back lines in the Premier League with the elite duo of Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven flanked by Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro, all in front of a talented goalkeeper in ex-Empoli man Guglielmo Vicario.
Tottenham have gone to the Serie A well frequently since hiring Fabio Paratici from Juventus a few years back, and their most recent signing from the Italian top flight was another former Bianconeri prospect in Radu Dragusin.
Signed from Genoa last winter, Dragusin was one of the best center backs in Serie A in the first half of the 2023/24 campaign, but he’s been relegated to Van de Ven’s injury replacement at Tottenham.
Frustrated by a lack of minutes, Dragusin has been quietly mired in transfer rumors coming out of Italy, and the latest one from Rai Sport states that former Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is pushing to sign the Romanian international for Napoli.
Although Conte flamed out at Tottenham, he is a former league title winner at Chelsea, Juventus, and, most recently, Inter Milan, and he is one of the best Italian managers in recent history.
Conte has brought Napoli from the mid-table back to being in the lead in the Scudetto race, and he already signed the best defender in Italy from the last season in former Torino star Alessandro Buongiorno.
Signing Dragusin would give Conte four solid center backs in Naples if you also factor in underrated veterans Amir Rrahmani and Juan Jesus. Tottenham surely won’t want to lose Dragusin, just 22 years old, to Conte of all people, knowing how much he could dominate in Serie A again.
