Tottenham forward Wilson Odobert joined the club this past summer from Burnley for a whopping 30 million euro transfer fee, as he is part of an incoming class of top prospects, alongside midfielders Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, in Spurs’ intent to compete at the Champions League level for the forseeeable future.
So far, the early returns on Gray and Bergvall have been highly positive, with the duo most recently impressing greatly in a 1-0 victory over Premier League leaders Liverpool in the first leg of the League Cup semifinals.
But the early returns on Odobert are unknown, as the 20-year-old winger has been unable to get on the pitch since suffering a hamstring injury that has cost him 25 games thus far.
There is some surprising good news, though. After various outlets reported that Odobert could be out for most of the 2024/25 season, Sky Sports are saying that the Frenchman could be back for Tottenham in late February.
Spurs fans will believe it when they see it with Odobert, who was supposed to return months ago before a setback in his recovery, but the fact that at least one notable outlet in England thinks his return will come next month, as opposed to a few more months, should be taken as a positive.
Odobert, like any young player, will have to navigate the rather unfair pressure of a bloated price tag, so Tottenham have to continue to back him. And as frustrating as it is for fans to see an expensive transfer out of the lineup, it is far better to take the safe approach with an injury, particularly a hamstring injury to a U21 forward.
Before his injury, Odobert started two games in the Premier League with an additional substitute appearance, recording a healthy five tackles, three key passes, and three dribbles completed for Spurs.
