Tottenham bounced back from disappointing defeats to fellow top-four contenders Newcastle and Arsenal by taking down Brentford 3-1 in the Premier League this past weekend.
James Maddison took center stage for Spurs, but the attacking midfielder was far from the only offensive player on Tottenham who had a big day against the Bees on Saturday.
Left winger Son Heung-min, back in his favored position after the summer signing of Dominic Solanke, didn’t score a goal but did register two assists with a whopping seven key passes to match Maddison’s seven dribbles completed.
Son is Tottenham’s undisputed best player after Harry Kane made his 2023 move to Bayern Munich, and after a poor 2022/23 season, he bounced back in 2023/24 as the main man at striker under Ange Postecoglou with 17 goals and 10 assists.
The South Korean superstar has been one of the best players in the Premier League for years, as he’s had eight seasons with double-digit goals and three seasons with double-digit assists since joining Tottenham from the Bundesliga.
This season, Son has created a chance in every single one of his five Premier League starts, and he has four goal contributions in five games due to a brace against Everton – and this brace of assists at Brentford.
Yet it’s been remarkable to see how many ignorant fans declare that Son is “past it” or “finished” and pretend as if the Tottenham star is no longer one of the best wingers in the Premier League.
He has not missed a beat since moving back to the wing, and his performance against Brentford is a reminder that he is just as prolific at creating chances as he has been at putting them away for Tottenham.
As much as Tottenham have improved under Postecoglou, it seems as though some of their biggest stars, like Son and Maddison, remain undervalued because of bloated criticism from rival fanbases with large online presences like Chelsea and Arsenal.
Son is still as electrifying and efficient as any attacker in the Premier League.
