Transfer insider reveals intriguing Timo Werner landing spot for Tottenham with a frustrating twist

Tottenham forward Timo Werner is on the outs at the club after a second, more extended loan deal between Spurs and RB Leipzig has failed to yield any positive results for the German international.

Werner once flirted with 30 goals in the Bundesliga and won the Champions League a year later, but he has fallen badly from grace, including fallouts with Chelsea, Leipzig, and now Tottenham.

Although Werner is still a Leipzig player, it appears that Tottenham should be just as invested in getting him off their wage books and somewhere else, as the money and squad space freed up by a new Werner loan could help Spurs facilitate a deal for a better goal-scorer, such as current top target Randal Kolo Muani of PSG.

According to a report from top Serie A insider Gianluca Di Marzio, Tottenham have a new potential landing spot that could free Werner from their squad, as Serie A leaders Napoli have begun initial transfer talks with Werner regarding a signing.

Napoli could have an opening on the left wing, which may be a better position for the German (especially in Serie A) than striker, as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia wants out of the club and is on the doorstep of a blockbuster move to PSG.

The frustrating part of the report is that Di Marzio says Tottenham are reluctant to let Werner go from his year-long loan deal this season, and, funnily enough, they might only be open to talking about terminating the loan after the North London Derby on Wednesday against Arsenal.

That part is funny because it’s bizarre to think that Tottenham believe Werner will have a meaningful impact against Arsenal. He barely plays, and it’s difficult to envision him being a threat to the elite Arsenal defense when he could scarcely complete a pass against lowly Tamworth.

Tottenham fans won’t understand why the club would want to hold onto Werner and keep paying him a salary when he has been so far below their level this season, and with the club sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League table, they’d surely want the opportunity to bring in someone else as a replacement this winter.
