Transfer Rumors: Why Richarlison could leave Tottenham this summer

Tottenham are on the up and up in the Premier League, even if some of their recent results, including a 4-2 loss to Liverpool over the weekend, have stirred some quiet doubts within the fanbase.

Most of the 2023/24 season has been a highly positive one from a Tottenham perspective, with new manager Ange Postecoglou breathing a real energy into the club after a dismal 2022/23 campaign.

Forward Richarlison has been one of the chief protagonists for Tottenham this season, even if he has been a bit underrated because he does not start every match for Spurs.

His 0.91 goals and assists per 90 average would set a career high, as Richarlison has been efficient and energetic whenever called upon.

However, since he isn’t a nailed-on starter and since Tottenham may be looking to go in a different direction with their forwards, the former Everton star has been mentioned in several transfer rumors.

The Athletic are reporting significant interest in Richarlison from clubs in Saudi Arabia, who are looking to swoop in for the versatile Tottenham forward even though he remains in his prime at the age of 26.

In 2022, Tottenham paid a whopping 60 million pounds for Richarlison, which, at the time, was seen as a fair deal, as the Brazilian was one of the most hyped players in the Premier League due to his vital contributions in saving Everton.

Carlo Ancelotti was allegedly keen on bringing Richarlison to Real Madrid in 2021, while Neymar was going to bat for him as a potential PSG signing, especially in the case of a Kylian Mbappe transfer to the Spanish capital.

Eventually, Richarlison made his step up to Tottenham, and after an uncomfortable first season, he has proven he is at the level of a Champions League club, which Spurs are close to being.

That said, the money from Saudi Arabia could tempt both Tottenham and Richarlison, especially if they can make their money back and use those funds on two quality starters.

It seems to be too soon for Richarlison to pack his bags to Saudi Arabia, though, because if he were a regular starter based on this season’s efficiency numbers, he would be a 20-goal Premier League forward.
