West Ham’s saving grace comes into focus after another poor performance vs. Everton

With the possible exceptions of Wolves and Crystal Palace, who are both literally in relegation places, there hasn’t been a more disappointing team to start the 2024/25 Premier League season than West Ham.

Despite an offseason filled with signings, the Hammers are no better than they were last season and may be even worse, as they currently sit in 14th place under new manager Julen Lopetegui.

The former Real Madrid coaching flop is already on the hot seat in London, and the only thing keeping him from being canned is a worry internally of starting a revolving door coaching carousel.

West Ham suffered another poor result this past weekend, drawing 0-0 to yearly relegation candidates Everton in what can only be described as another lifeless display from this Lopetegui-coached side.

But despite another goose eggs in the goal column, one West Ham attacker did stand out positively, and it’s not the first time he has done so in a game in which the Hammers were otherwise dreary in the attack.

New left winger Crysencio Summerville showed a great deal of heart for the Hammers on both sides of the ball, creating a pair of chances, winning two tackles, and even showing great courage on defense with a blocked shot.

Summerville was everywhere, and he has shown a willingness to fight and run for his team even when things look bleak. And that counts for a lot; it literally counts for points in the table.

With the club’s best player, Mohammed Kudus, out suspended, Summerville has stepped up big time and has shown that is an electrifying talent in his own right, well worth the money spent.

Just by watching him at Leeds, West Ham already knew that Summerville had the talent, and now with the way he is fighting for the team, they can see that he can combine talent and hard work to become a fixture at the club for years to come.
