Although much of the news surrounding Bayern Munich is negative right now, Die Roten are still one of the powers of European football and are in the Champions League semifinals against a familiar foe in Real Madrid.
Bayern are coming off a 5-1 blowout victory over Union Berlin in the Bundesliga, so even though the league title has already been lost to an undefeated Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern are still pushing hard to finish strong under departing manager Thomas Tuchel.
Leroy Sane has been one of the main protagonists of the Bayern Munich machine this season, standing alongside Jamal Musiala and Harry Kane as one of the best attacking players in European football this season.
The German international has been out for about a week with a hip injury, as he was held out of the weekend Bundesliga fixture against Union.
According to a report from the Abendzeiteung’s Maximilian Koch, Leroy Sane is expected to be held out of this weekend’s league fixture, too, against Eintracht Frankfurt. Bayern Munich are hoping to get Sane back by the time the first leg of the Champions League semifinals against Real Madrid take place.
Bayern will face Real Madrid on April 30 next Tuesday at the Allianz Arena, knowing they need a very strong first leg in order to overcome what will likely be another furious Remontada attempt from the Merengues.
Sane is crucial to Bayern’s hopes of reaching the Champions League Final, which they last appeared in – and won – in the magical treble-winning season of 2019/20. Bayern are playing the smart and safe rout with Sane, pushing for him to start against Real Madrid.
