West Ham are busy looking at possible options at the striker position in the January 2025 transfer window after losing Niclas Fullkrug for three months with an injury against Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
So far, most of the options are flawed, as the dream targets, like Jhon Duran, are undeniably impossible reaches for the Hammers budget or simply not available at all.
West Ham probably want to sign someone who is proven, has some future upside, costs under 50 million pounds, and doesn’t come with an extensive injury history; they already have enough of those.
According to a report from Claret and Hugh, West Ham’s data analyst has been recommending names to the club for possible January 2025 signings, and one well-known player he brought up is RB Leipzig striker Andre Silva.
In 2020/21, Silva looked like one of the next big things at the striker position in the Bundesliga, as he scored 28 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt and was near the top of the league scoring charts alongside world-class No. 9’s Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland.
But after a move to Leipzig, Silva started to fall in line with the rest of the Eintracht stars at striker who couldn’t quite cut it anywhere else in a top league – and West Ham do have experience with that…
The good news is that Silva could be acquired on loan, as Leipzig are desperate to get rid of him and have no role for him, especially with two top strikers in their ranks in Lois Openda and Benjamin Sesko.
But the bad news is that Silva is injury prone, West Ham would have to cover his wages, and he’s never had a quality season at the top level aside from that 2020/21 campaign with Eintracht Frankfurt.
Basically, Silva is on a laundry list of striker options who aren’t good enough for West Ham and don’t materially offer anything different to the already flawed options they have at their disposal. Next.
