Bayern Munich might go the disaster route at replacing Thomas Tuchel

Bayern Munich need to replace Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, as he had already agreed to step down as the club’s manager.

Though there are rumblings he could stay due to Bayern’s success in the Champions League, the Tuchel ship appears to have sailed, given the apparently acrimonious relationship between him and star players like Joshua Kimmich.

Bayern Munich will scour the available managerial landscape for replacements, and while the likes of Roberto De Zerbi will be favored, Die Roten have been linked to some less orthodox options.

Reunions with Hansi Flick and Julian Nagelsmann have been spitballed, Jose Mourinho has been oddly linked, and the great Zinedine Zidane has been dreamed about.

According to BILD’s Christian Falk, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is the latest name to be thrown around as a possible Thomas Tuchel replacement for the 2024/25 Bundesliga season.

Ten Hag is one of a handful of managers sporting director Max Eberl has on his list of candidates along with Benfica’s Roger Schmidt and former Sevilla coach Julen Lopetegui.

Lopetegui alone is an underwhelming name, having just coached Wolves, but ten Hag could be a truly disastrous hire and one Bayern Munich fans would welcome more rudely than a Tuchel return.

Ten Hag has antagonized Manchester United fans and some of his star players, namely Jadon Sancho, who embarrassed the Dutchman further with an all-time performance for Dortmund vs. PSG in the Champions League semifinals.

Bayern Munich have been bristled by Tuchel’s ego, but ten Hag’s is arguably worse, given his treatment of Sancho. And unlike Tuchel, ten Hag has not won the Champions League – let alone come anywhere close.
