Brighton have eyes on an unknown Roberto De Zerbi replacement

Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi is one of the most respected coaches in world football, as he greatly improved his stock to a borderline elite manager by taking the Seagulls to the Europa League last season.

Although the results haven’t been there for Brighton this season as they toil away in the middle of the Premier League table, they have been hit hard by injuries and haven’t been too shabby this season, all things considered.

De Zerbi’s reputation remains strong, and the success at Brighton is far from the only thing the Italian coach can hang his hat on. He was great at Sassuolo and Shakhtar Donetsk, too.

Brighton are preparing for a top club like Bayern Munich or even Manchester United to snatch De Zerbi away, so they need to look for replacements.

According to The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg, Brighton are interested in targeting Kieran McKenna of Ipswich Town if Roberto De Zerbi were to leave, and they would hire McKenna whether or not Ipswish get promoted from the Championship.

And now, Ispwich have earned promotion with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield. They are second in the Championship, six points clear of Leeds United in third and nine points clear of Southampton in fourth – both were Premier League sides in 2022/23.

McKenna is 37 and a former youth team coach for Tottenham and Manchester United. He is one of the best up-and-coming managers in England in his own right and could be the exact right candidate to take over, following in the footsteps of other great, underrated managers Brighton built up in Graham Potter and De Zerbi.
