Brighton have resumed being one of the Premier League’s most entertaining teams under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, who could prove to be a better fit for the club’s identity and youth development in the long run than former coach Roberto De Zerbi.
So far, Brighton sit 10th in the Premier League table and seem to be behind the pace in the European race after a bright start to the season, but with a bevy of new faces and young players who can only improve from here on out, they’ll still like their chances at surprising.
Brighton aren’t done landing high-upside talents, as Sky Sports are reporting that they, alongside Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, are interested in acquiring Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott.
The former 7-goal, and 11-assist winger at Blackburn in the Championship had one season with 9 goal contributions for Liverpool as a rotational piece, but, this season, Elliott hasn’t registered a single goal or assist – or even start – under Arne Slot.
With a crowded attacking front, the talented academy product is on the periphery and needs a move to be all he can be, and a move within the Premier League may be preferred.
That said, Dortmund are a historic club with a penchant for getting the most out of mercurial talents, and they could have a vacancy on the wings if Donyell Malen heads to the Premier League this winter.
Brighton need some additional attacking juice as they mull offers for Julio Enciso, and while there are more exciting names available than Elliott, he could be an economical addition with a pretty decent track record of success.
It’s easy to forget that Elliott is still only 21 even though he’s had years of experience, and far from being the paradox of an “experienced young player” with limited upside, Elliott is simply someone who hasn’t gotten regular chances, which could change with Hurzeler and the Seagulls.
